Background qualifies Wethington
My vote is for Mr. John Wethington, RN:
When someone runs for a local Board of Health, they are responsible under state and local regulations, for disease prevention and control, health and environmental noise protection, and promoting a healthy community. They have unique and special authority to listen to complaints and protect the public.
Recently our elected officials in Fairhaven have seemingly turned their back on the community not allowing for even the "basic of health needs" to be met. I am not blind to the fact that I may be in the minority regarding the sound at night from the two wind turbines. I am one of only 50-60 people that filed complaints to the board in regards to our sleepless nights. I have been honest the whole way through and only filed a complaint under complete duress after being woken up at obscure times of night (12, 1 and 3 a.m.). Although I'm not in favor of the current decision to turn them back on because of my home's proximity to the turbines, my decision to vote for John Wethington stems from a different place, and it should for you as well. To whomever your allegiances lie you should take the time to review the current track record for the current chairman and compare it to John's Wethington's qualifications before you vote this Sept. 9.
In over a year and a half not one of my emailed complaints has ever been answered by our current chairman. Not a single one. Even if you are in complete support of the wind turbines you have to agree that not responding to the community's complaints is at the very least rude, un-sympathetic and unprofessional. We need a person in that position that can evaluate the cries of the community effectively and do their best to mitigate the situation without fear of backlash from big corporations. The wind community in Massachusetts in particular has put profits before the health and good night's sleep of our town. With a multitude of evidence throughout the Commonwealth and the recently failed DEP noise testing at many sites in Fairhaven the current chairman has turned a blind eye to the laws he must abide by and the citizens he was sworn to protect.
I ask for your support in voting for John Wethington. He is the only candidate with a medical background, the patience to listen to those that are suffering and common courtesy to address a complaint — even if he does not agree with you.
