Wethington qualified
In Fairhaven's April election John Wethington received a vote of confidence from over 1,200 people for a seat on the Board of Health. On Sept. 9, we, the voters, have been given another opportunity to help make this a reality.

The jurisdiction of the Board of Health encompasses a large variety of regulations in town ranging from the town's recycling program to flu clinics to septic tanks. John has the necessary resolve to research and fully comprehend all aspects of the position. He is an educated, hard-working individual possessing the drive and determination to successfully work his way through nursing school while supporting his family. It is John's knowledge and experience as a healthcare professional that separates him from others and makes him completely and clearly qualified for a seat on the Board of Health. John has been a registered nurse for the past 10 years, a clear advantage. During his campaign in the spring, he discussed childhood obesity and the lesser known but serious problem of multiple expired medications found in the homes of our elderly. More recently, John has discussed medical marijuana and the potential location of up to 35 dispensaries that could be allowed in Massachusetts. This topic will require much research and investigation in order to develop stringent guidelines and protocols for this sensitive issue. It will require empathy and tolerance that comes from an understanding of not only specific medical conditions, but also their disease processes, and the resulting various and often debilitating symptoms. Today's nurses are skilled in researching, critiquing, and implementing evidence-based policies. John's mastery of these skills along with his compassion, determination, education, knowledge, and first-hand experience in the healthcare field, would prove to be invaluable dealing with these issues and many more that the town will face in the future. As a resident of the town of Fairhaven for most of my life and a registered nurse for the past 28 years, I am grateful to John for stepping forward.
