UMaine-Augusta adopting no-tobacco policy
#1 Sep 5, 2012
I think not smoking is a good idea. But there should be somewhere kids can smoke if they do. Maybe a designated area outside? Otherwise, they are just going to sneak and that could be unsafe. Its not just like a hospital zone. Its where they live. And I hate smoking, but if someone is goofy enough to still do it, then there should be a place where they can go.

I think it's a fantastic idea. The more difficult it is for people to smoke, the easier it is for them to quit. I've never met a single smoker who didn't express a desire to quit someday. Students who smoke can still do so off campus. I agree that some people will be sneaky and smoke on campus, anyway. But, I don't feel that enabling those people is a valid reason to create a smoking area for them. I'd love to see a tobacco-free future, and the more we do to restrict smoking, the easier it will be for the next generation to grow up smoke-free.
