LET'S FACE THE TRUTH !!. The officials that are supposed to be keeping our counties and state in good financial health have abandoned the people in search of personal growth and financial success of the own, NOT working for the people. As soon as the private sector employees who "support" the public sector with their tax dollars realize that their money is being wasted, maybe...just maybe there will be a revolt to eliminate more than half the "public sector employees" that rape our system and people with liftime pensions and healthcare, AND perks. Then the state of CA can become golden again.

McColl Ranch School in Jacumba, San Diego County 1959 to my graduation in 1969. Only spent the first 2 years (grades 1 & 2) in a government skool.
The school owners were both charter members of the John Birch Society so, needless to say, we were taught in certain conservative manners. Every morning, we had an opening exercise where we gathered around the flag poll, recited the Pledge of Allegiance and then the Lord's Prayer - something you won't find in socialist publik skool.
Remembering the 2 nightmare years I had in publik skool, we enrolled our 4 kids in Catholic schools. All have since graduated, went on to Jesuit universities where they learned how to think logically and are now pursuing successful careers.
And now a little analogy. You know how filthy public (government owned) restrooms can be, especially at public (government owned) parks. It's because there is absolutely zero pride in ownership, not for those who use them, not for the people paid (with our tax dollars) to maintain them and, especially not with those who manage the facilities. Same can be said with publik skools. That's why I prefer private schools.
Holy cow, I don't even know where to start.
You keep spouting off to step away from the communist kool-aid; brother, you need to step away from the Catholic Kool-aid! You talk about public school indoctrination, but say, "we were taught in certain conservative manners." You are just as bad, just on the other side! You talk about getting rid of public schools, but can't get through a post without bringing up religion! You are no better, in fact you are worse since your religion teaches nothing but being judgemental, and intolerance.(see all of your previous posts)

The last time we mixed politics with religion, people were burned at the stake.

I was raised Catholic, went to Catholic school for a while; then stopped drinking the kool-aid (as you call it) and started thinking for myself. People need to stop the rhetoric and realize it doesn't have to be all or nothing.

If you're really far "left", or really far "right"; you know what you've done? You gone TOO far!

Wow, last time I checked this was the USA, where people can say whatever they want; at least that's one of the things I fought to protect when I was in the military. Are you an Irish girl from the middle east where women can't speak up?

And if you were a real Irish girl who knew anything about your history, you would be agreeing with me. All Irish people were Pagans before "St. Patrick" came and slaughtered the elders and anyone else who wouldn't convert to Catholicism and forced his will on the entire country. Hope you enjoyed your green beer on Wednesday!

Jennifer, your statement is not quite correct. Prior to Patrick, there was a branch of Christianity in Ireland known as the Celtic Rite and brought to Ireland by St. Columba. This form of Christianity was brought to the British Isles and Ireland from the Roman Empire of the first Christian Emperor, Constantine.

Hundreds of years later, Patrick was sent to Ireland by Rome in order to force the Celtic Rite into submission of the Roman Catholic Church under the Pope, commonly known as the Latin Rite.

Where the Celtic Rite was lead by Bishops at the local level, the Latin Rite had its leadership centralized in rome and had an absolutist level of authority hence, much heartburn in Ireland afterward.

More dirty little historical and theological secrets that the nuns, your pastor, priest Sunday school teacher or bartender who serves green beer every March 17th won't tell you.

Reading, writing and math. That is what school is all about! Period! Everything else is fluff! Maybe this is a blessing is disguise. Since we could not get back to basics on our own it seems ironic that the budget mess may have taken care of the problem for us. Maybe we will be better able to compete on the world stage once we actually teach our children something valuable and get rid of all of the ping pong and basket weaving classes!
China is in the lead on the "world stage" and FYI the top 3 players in both men's and women's world champion Ping pong is... you guessed it from China! makes you think!

As a student in the FSUSD district, this is hitting me and my friends like a ton of bricks. We won't have any activities to put on college applications, and sports is what kept a lot of students focusEd in school and excited about something. The district didnt need to build a new library at Armijo or a new FSUSD office building. Now, us students are the ones suffering.
