Vallejo seeking applicants for city committee openings

Vallejo is seeking help from the public to take part in local government on six primarily resident-run commissions, committees and boards.

Vacancies include: two Design Review Board slots, one Economic Vitality Commission seat, two Housing and Redevelopment Commission spots, one at-large Mobile Home Rent Review Board member, one SolTrans Public Advisory Committee member and four Youth Commission applicants between the ages of 13 and 21, plus two adult advisors.

Descriptions of the purpose of each committee is as follows:

* Design Review Board: Promote orderly, harmonious and attractive development, encourage the stability of land values and investments in those neighborhoods and districts designated by the city council and promote the general health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the city.

* Economic Vitality Commission: Advise the city council on issues that can enhance job growth and increased private investment in Vallejo; Review and assist with updates and the implementation of the economic development element of the general plan; and assist with business retention and attraction activities.

* Housing and Redevelopment Commission: Provide various functions in three separate areas: housing, redevelopment, and community development.

* Mobile Home Rent Review Board: Hold hearings and decide petitions rent review petitions on mobile home rent increases, and to adjust maximum space rents upward or downward.

* Soltrans Public Advisory Committee: Serve as an advisory committee to the SolTrans Board, review and comment on service and fare adjustments, short-range transit plan development and review SolTrans annual work plan.

* Youth Commission: Promote the general health and welfare of the young people in the city of Vallejo and give them a voice in their city government.

The Mayor should be assigned to the Design Review Board, the description of duties and responsibilities fits his job to a tee. This is another buck passing ploy, how about showing leadership first and convince the citizens to follow?

With all these committees one would think Vallejo should be in the forefront of prosperity and progress in the Bay Are. Something's not right.

speaking of the mayor, how's that insurance scam going ? haven't heard/read any updates
