There are 2 comments on the WVTM story from Feb 19, 2008, titled Miles College Seeking Tougher Admission Policy. In it, WVTM reports that:

“I do think that having a more selective admission policy will provide us with the type of student we think is more interested in obtaining a higher education, benefits that can be gained from higher education than not”

After more than 103 years of educating students, Miles College is considering making it tougher for students to get into the school. via WVTM

So what is the new standard of acceptance for new students coming to Miles? I remember the times when almost all students were accepted and the school 'worked with' the slower students. I suppose some of our HUBCs are going elite now? Sorry Johnny, if you can not read, go to Jr College.

It is about time for Miles to set some standards for admissionas. When you mix "slower" learners with "average" learners, it is unfair to both groups. Slow learners belong in colleges with programs design to help them become successful. Nowadays, many students of color are given high school diplomas with "Certificate of Attendance" stamped on them. In other words, we are having students coming out of high school and going to college that can barely read and write. I highly support Miles for setting some admission standards. I feel that other HBCUs should do the same. I do recall, before integration, if you graduated from high school, you could read and write.
