I can't believe they are charging him with animal cruelty. Would a person not kill another animal to spare the life of their pet. He raised this squirrel and while it was a wild animal, I am sure he considered it a pet. He was in a tough situation and reacted (whether justified or not) in sparing an animals' life- not causing it intentional cruelty. Dr. Sheplar, no need to feel embarrassed, your intention was to save a living creature that you raised since a very young age.

You do understand that a squirrel is basically a rat !!!! The Hawk on the other hand is an amazing creature with a long history . There is a hawk that nests by Sachem East High School and is a wonder to watch when it is in flight !!!

Just another sad example of government intruding into the lives of private citizens where they have no damn business whatever.

all creatures are equally "amazing". I see no difference here. I guess biased "wonder" is in the mind of the beholder. I think it is natural to want to protect something you have cared for. Having rescued a baby squirrel myself -- i have gained a new insight to the "amazingness" of these creatures as well. here's another vote for the doctor's instincts.

Are you kidding me???? A bird of prey versus a rodent??? Is there even any doubt? If your pet is in danger from a wild animal that is YOUR fault. I suppose you people would shoot a snow leopard to protect your pet rat... Idiots. Bottom line is that nature happens all around us, and I you kill a rare species(such as a hawk) for defense of a squirrel (basically a cute furry RAT. It is like saying you would shoot a lion for killing your pet mouse. It's about judgement people.

The issue really is that it is illegal to discharge a gun in the Town of Vienna.

What a hero, saving his squirrel's life like that. If my pet was being attacked, I'd step in to help them, too. I just saw two hawks outside my house, ironically enough.

I back the doctor 100% There are way too many hawks around. It's time for a bounty on 'em.
