Report: NRA has broken silence, here comes leverage and money

Dec 18, 2012 | Posted by: Mr_Bill | Full story: wtvr.com

As the nation sent up a collective wail of grief over the 26 people slaughtered in a Newtown, Connecticut, school last week, the nation's leading gun rights lobby remained silent.

Until now. The National Rifle Association, with roughly 4.3 million members, deactivated its Facebook page, had stopped tweeting on its Twitter account and had been issuing a “no comment” to any media outlet, including CNN, seeking a response.

This massacre was a horror and teachers should be trained in the use of firearms and get their permit to carry while in school.

A well armed school staff could prevent this in the future.

Nothing could be further from the truth, if anything I have come up with an idea that will protect kids while in school.

Armed teachers who are trained in the proper use of a firearm are an asset for school security and will deter a crazed person from entering the school but if it happens the teachers can return fire and stop the intruder.

Since you are in Germany and not USA ,your liberal socialistic opnion does not matter, Here in USA we respect the right to own guns.

2171 service men dies this year protecting our constitutional rights.
None of their names where called out on tv by our president. or any major tv news media.
The president did not go to any of the families’ homes or funerals.
Why are there deaths treated lesser than a child’s? There blood is the same color.
not one serviceman was ever killed by an assault weapon. All were killed by people.
And by the way an assault weapon is a made up word by the media.
Ww2 the germans had what they called a storm rifle.
The next time you sheeple want to shred the constitution remember all the brave men and woman who died for it. any who are in active service took an oath to uphold the constitution including the president.

Is your arguement that "this" is the price we pay for our 'rights', in this case to own weapons specificly designed to kill people. If not please clairfy you arguement.

“The National Rifle Association ... is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again,”(in the article)

Let's wait to here there 'meaningful contributions' before praising or condemning them.

a weapon is anything a person uses to subdue an agressor. say if your attacking me and i pick up a rock and hit you over the head. the rock is the weapon. we the people took this land with weapons. we the people murdered thousands of natives including babies. Here have a blanket comrade...if your of age please join the army. Serve your country. You will have a totally different attitude toward the constitution.

First, because I currently live in Germany doesn't make me any less American than you.

Second, valuing the life of children higher than the right to carry assault weapons as a civilian doesn't make me a socialist.

No one doesn't feel for the families effected by Sandy Hook. However, people of reason do need to make sure that our rights are not sacrificed in a misguided effort to make ourselves feel good.

Would it really be less intelligent to waive our right to buy assault weapons anwhere anytime and instead grant our children the right to live? Even an NRA member should be able to understand that.

At least the NRA waited to get into the political battle unlike the president at a memorial to celebrate the LIFE of those killed and NOT how they died.

NRA worries me when they say they'll work on gun control. Which concession will they make. Are they going to try and look pc all the way.

If nothing else the NRA is upfront what they are about. I hope they stay upfront and don't worry about appearances. They have to a point but their job is to serve gun ownership and not just the current owners of guns or members of the NRA.

I'm not one who tries to shift blame for physical acts nor does the NRA. The act of murder is committed by a person wether it be accident or plan it is done by a person.

The whole point of lobby groups for anyside is to stay on topic and not the reactionary issues focused on by an overly emotional public.
