A disturbed friend who is now in late 60's was at St. Thomas Seminary surely. However he appears to have been sent by his family to the orphanage first in about 1953 to 1959? How can one find a listing of those at the boys orphanage during these dates? This information may be able to help him.
Thank you!
. he must have have been there when me, my brother Paul , and 3 sisters were there. IT WASN'T GOOD.

My brothers name at birth was Randy Vincent bn. 5/7/1954. He might not have been adopted. The rest of us (5) were adopted into different families at birth. Found the rest in 2007.

I really feel for the kids who were abused while they were at STSV. I wasn't. I don't have real specific memories except for tap dancing and horses and the July 4th picnic and eating spinach. I don't remember any names. Maybe some it is blocked, I don't know. I just know I wasn't abused and I don't have any specific memories of anyone being abused - but, I was only 5-7 years old. My prayers go out to those who were abused during this time in their life. I have no explanations for why this happened to some and not others. Could it have been that I went home every weekend to my family?

As a kid, I don't recall ever meeting a child from STSV but the orphanage would allow teams from Middletown Recreation to access their gymnasium for practices, etc. in the mid 1970's. Also, from my understanding, part of the movie "Stripes" was filmed on STSV property in 1980. It was the obstacle course scene fairly early into the movie. I was working in a restaurant less than two miles from STSV & Bill Murray came in to eat dinner one night. I always wondered why Bill Murray was eating dinner in Middletown, Ky & then I heard about the filming at STSV.

I have been attempting to research my father's and his brothers and sister's experience in a Louisville orphanage in the 1920's. Unable to find anything at all, I have read a number of books written by people who lived in orphanages as children. The relationships between the children and their keepers inevitably made me think of an experiment where people were randomly assigned to be either guards or prisoners. Both keepers and kept changed and suffered. Here is a link to the study. It may be some understanding to your experience.

I am trying to locate a little girl by the name of Danielle. She was in the orphanage back in the early 70's. SHe was five years old back then and her mom lived in California and drove a Toyoto. She would always talk about her mom driving a toyoto. Her parents got back together and took her to CA.

I was there from 1975 to 1979. It was bad. There was some good. But alot of bad, too. Sister Delores Marie was a cruel woman. And yes, she WAS huge!

I was at St. Thomas St. Vincent orphanage between 1954 and 1957. While most of the nuns seemed kind there were some who were, in my opinion, sadistic and I intensely hated them for their cruelty. I just can't help to think in retrospect that their "kindness" was more for public consumption than otherwise. To this day I will have nothing at all to do with the catholic church. Once, while in the 2nd grade I asked to go to the bathroom and slipped out. Fr. Lammers picked me up on Shelbyville Road. Where I thought I was going I have no idea but I just wanted to get away from there. It was a minimum security prison for children. In the summertime a philanthropic old man used to come and reward all those who played baseball with popsicles. I never got that first one because I refused to have anything to do with the nuns and most of the other children who could be evermore crueler than them. But that wasn't their fault. It was a lack of supervision and the poor example of the penguins that allowed them to be that way.

Hello ,

My name then was Gloria Lawler.I don't remember what year I was there strangely enough as a few years later,I was sent to Ormsby Village I think in 1951 and left in 1955.My younger years are Blanks.

My brother Glenn Lawler was in St.Thomas, later Boy's Haven and then Ormsby Village.

I DO REMEMBER THE NUNS BEING MEAN! My sister was a little girl and she was PUNISHED BY STANDING ON A CHAIR AND A NUN CUTTING HER HAIR.

THERE WAS A LITTLE GIRL THERE WITH "RED HAIR"NAMED ISABELLE HALE AND SHE AND MY SISTER WERE PLAYING TOGETHER AND WHATEVER THEY WERE DOING"JANIS RECEIVED THE PUNISHMENT.

I cannot remember the Priest name, but as I remember he was nice to me and as far as I know,to the other children.

I remember sitting outside and singing songs in the hot evenings.

God Bless All that were there .

Gloria Holst....a Wonderful Life Now
