Louisvillians fight for charter schools

Feb 8, 2011 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: WAVE-TV Louisville

The head of Jefferson County Public Schools is against it and so is the teacher's union, but that didn't stop a dozen or so folks from Louisville from heading to the capitol to tell legislators they want charter schools.

Support Charter Schools now.

President Obama and Republicans both support support these local intiatvies with overwhelming success in inner cities (such as Chicago).

While there are some successes, Jefferson County's overall school systems is failing and there's absolutely no plan other than our decades old busing/diversity plan. Remember, higher education does more to overcome racism than any other single factor.

Higher education creates more opportunity and upward mobility. That does more for integration than simply busing children across town to a different school.

Charter schools must meet the same educational requirements. They allow more innovation and create more local/parent involvement.

I ask the superintendent, council members, and the JCTA to support the Charter program. If it doesn't work, then change it back but for our children's sake, GIVE IT A CHANCE!!!

Just by accepting a path for charter schools to form, would provide another reason for Kentucky to score some more federal dollars.

Charter Schools is a way for a school to be eased of the state's restrictions for education, to experiment with alternative forms of education, and to allow for more home schooling... or alternate models for low income, consistently failing schools, etc. It uses public funds, and those for Universal Education, want public education only, so no competition for

In order to get some more Obama Bucks, all Kentucky has to do, is legislate some path for charter schools, and they'll be getting more money. Just a path to charter schools... they can make it impossible to get, if that's how hard-headed they want to be, but just develop some possible "path" for charter schools, and then get that extra money. If they don't, I heard that you could independently get some Obama Bucks, and just circumvent the State... which isn't a bad idea... I think I should start a school...
