SUBJECT: HUMAN RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES

July 17, 2008

"The United Nations has increasingly taken up the cause of Indigenous people, who are considered among the world's most disadvantaged groups.

Excluded from the decision-making process, many Indigenous people have been marginalized, exploited, assimilated and subjected to repression, torture and murder when they speak out in defense of their rights.

Fearing persecution, they often become refugees or they try to mask their identity, abandoning their languages and traditional customs and clothing."

(quote from un.org )

RESPECT HUMAN RIGHTS & DIGNITY.

I support the parents. The citizens of Needville are showing their narrow-mindedness in this matter. We are all individuals and 'needless' conformity is a violation of an individuals human rights, especially so for Indigenous peoples.

If you don't respect others, you certainly can't expect others to have respect for you.

To Sheila Baker - I would suggest you get the facts prior to the horrible emails you are sending everyone. These people listed "baptist" as their religion. The father had short, cut hair until they decided to raise this issue. It truly has nothing to do with an type of Indian heritage - it has to do with the mother making waves. They lived in a place where they could wear his hair as he chose - obviously it was not a priority then. Mr. Jordan is correct - the parents are rabble rousers and have no concern for the well being of their child. Check out their website - "Sinched". They are goths - not Indians. Enough said.

THE ISSUE IS HUMAN RIGHTS & DIGNITY, INCLUDING YOURS. I SIMPLY QUOTED THE UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS CODE.
MATTHEW 7;1 'DO NOT JUDGE, OR YOU TOO WILL BE JUDGED. FOR IN THE SAME WAY YOU JUDGE OTHERS, YOU WILL BE JUDGED, AND WITH THE MEASURE YOU USE, IT WILL BE MEASURED TO YOU'
Although the ruling is clear, it's implementation depends on a change of attitude by those involved in the education of this child.
Human Rights, recognized world-wide, applies to everyone.

I work for Needville ISD and I think it's about time that we join the 21st Century. It's NOT 1955 anymore and it's time we grow a brain around here and quit clinging to these types of stupid non-issues and get on with the important work of EDUCATING THE KIDS, and quit wasting time, energy, and resources on these sorts of rediculous sideshows. We should have learned that lesson after the "Dam T-Shirt" debacle. I guess some of us are just slow learners.

White people have a right to their heritage, too, and to uphold our standards of self-respect. This area has been white for a long time, now mexicans, blacks, and asians are leaking in, trying to change everything. I say let them find their own community to live in.

The Needville schools are 50 years behind time.
The Indian boy must be allowed to remember his heritage. I was in SW Montana several years ago at the Big Hole National Park where old Indian men, women, and children, were slaughter by soldiers on horses while their Braves were on a search for food. So the American Indians have a lot to remember!
