The punishment should fit the crime. What is obscene is the cost of putting these vermin down. What do these lawyers do? Charge $1 million to take four years producing a couple pieces of paper? Pay them $10/hour and give them a month to come up with something in open-and-shut cases (DNA evidence, caught red-handed, etc). If they can't do this, then disbar them for incompetence. Failure of appeal = last meal. The cost of death penalty appeals is artificial. I'll put two in the back of a scumbag's head for no charge...I don't need the money. I just ask the state to pay for the bullets and the gun.
