<quoted text>What about the rest of my statements? You imply that we need to make it right by offering those social programs to help better the less unfortunate and I am telling you that the majority will not take anything more than the hand outs. We both agree the solution will not be an easy one, but if the majority will do nothing to further themselves, how will offering those opportunties that you mention, balance the races?
I don't see anything wrong with requiring people to work for the "hand outs". I just think that the work performed in exchange for the assistance should be meaningful work that enhances the dignity of the individual. Of course, I'm sure most people would think that makes me a communist or something.

Well that's the problem. Last I heard, you had to earn your way. What work, other than cleaning outhouses isn't meaningful or necessary. Every industry has a job that someone doesn't want. As a woman who had nothing, I did landscaping, food service, factory work and most of those were second jobs. Not one job did I consider beneath me. Were there jobs that I liked better than others? Absolutely. But, I found myself offering great jobs for twice the pay that most had ever earned and they still couldn't make it in to work. They still showed up late. They still talked on their cell phones, napped in their cars and spent more time talking up their coworkers than doing the work that was required. ANY of those jobs I am referring to, I would have worked myself today. Applying your logic, perhaps they deemed the work beneath them, so I would offer chance after chance, only to be proven that it wasn't about that. IF they worked, they only worked long enough until my fax machine went off from a local agency offering free child care, hud, amha, etc. and then that employee would drop off the earth claiming they got fired and were looking for work. The government agency knew the truth and did nothing to fix the problem either. About the only time I could count on anyone making any remedial attempt would be from November 27th until around the first week of February, March if I was lucky.

So, now we are back to where we started. What else ya got?

For one thing, you had to have had at least one success story among all of the people you placed. Isn't that one person worth something? If even one person succeeds, don't you at least have that?

If you offer money with no work required, most people will take the money. There has to be work required for the assistance. I think the government has to create those jobs itself rather than expect the private sector to do it. This would be a win-win situation for everyone. People would earn a fair wage and needed work would get done in our society. But then we would have a bunch of cranky old people whining about socialism.

Actually I did. A reformed felon who would take any work, no matter what. I even tried to discourage some work because of lower pay than some of the other jobs he had worked. He worked circles around ten men, no matter how high or how low the pay scale. My very last day I found him a full time, permenant position. Yes, I cried, I was happy.

But, out of the thousands in between, the system was more than exhausted and taxed. Canada is a socialist country and their unemployment rate is through the roof. So, I would not whine about socialism, if I had proof that it worked. In the meantime, I will keep right on whining. In a country where hard work can fulfill my dreams or one idea can make me a weathy woman, that gives just what it takes to get up and go into work, day after day, year after year. Well, that and wanting to have food in my cupboards.
