I know this maybe a long shot, but if you have a way for me to get in contact with the owner I would be very delighted. I really want to take my daughter there on a private tour. I want her to embrace the true value of the mansion. yes I kinda got the picture that she has seen better days, but I stil want her to see the place and take some pictures of her at the mansion. if you get this message and are able to help me, please email me at [email protected],c om.. thank you very much.

Yes the place is falling apart. It is 100 years old after all. The economy isn't that great either as we all know. For those that don't know, the present owner has serious health problems. He has also put well over 3 million into restorations already just in the last 4 years. This is his money...it isn't coming from any outside source other than the tours he has at certain times of the year (which is only $6.00 per adult), and a wedding here and there. That doesn't add up that fast. I know the owner personally, and to be honest, am getting tired of seeing people complaining on how the owner is letting it fall apart. I see it everywhere you go on the internet.
How bout contributing to the cause. You all make it sound like it's so easy to get it back to the way it was. Send your donations, and lets see this beautiful place get restored.

...I. AGREE...Phil isn't a millionaire and it would take that to.restore the place.I was maintenaince for the palace in early 90s and every work order I turned in was over 500$.the mountain is in decay but after years of local junkies druggies and drunks and others ill not mention abusing the place its hard to keep putting money in something that you know will be torn up..

The place is truly enchanting. There is a calming feeling that comes over me when I stand before its beautiful marble. As I walk among the mansions ruins, I can only dream of the days when it stood new. I understand its over 100 years old. Yet, through out this area we call home there are numerous buildings standing over 100 years old, without devastation that has came to Swannanoa Mansion. This place is part of local history, amazing stories and famous visitors. To bad no one will come forward and reinstate its beauty.

It shouldn't be just the owners funds fixing and restoring this grand location. Its an historical land mark for goodness sakes.

I agree with you 100%. So many people including County officials complaining about this place. But no one has offered any ideas or funds to do anything about it.

Simple things, art festivals where clients pay a fee for a space to set up their work for view or sale. I'm sure even the Shenandoah arts would be happy to get involve with that. 20 spots at $30 =$600 a tiny amount but every penny counts 6 to 12 a year....

Yard sale, rent a spot on a Saturday....proceeds go to restore the location.....

just a small idea..

I was actually married at Swannanoa Palace on July 8 2006. I looked up an down the east coast for the perfect place and came across the palace from a friend's suggestion. I contact the owner and we took a tour...I LOVED IT! I feel a special connection to the palace and did before I got married there. It was the most magical day of my life. The owner and his wife attended the wedding as well and stayed long into the night...we finally left around 2am! He had the biggest smile on his face and said it was the best wedding he had ever been to. He felt like the mansion was alive again like he remembered it years and years ago. I have some amazing pictures that I could share with those interested. I feel so lucky to have been able to get married at such an amazing place that has so much history. Imagine the parties thrown there years ago by the original owners. We partied under a huge white tent under the stars and overlooking the valley. I believe places like this are haunted, but not by negative spirits. They hold the secrets and the stories of those who have lived there and occasionally if we listen closely enough, we can hear them.

I knew of the place as my family has lived in this land for centuries. My interest got piqued via a book on ghost stories. To say the least, I read about "The Conspiracy of 30" and had to do my own investigation. This was back in 1999 or 2000.

I interviewed people nearby and found a man that used to be a groundskeeper there. He told me stories of cats being afraid of the third story of the mansion.

The Russels's did start a cult. The University of Science and Philosophy. They are related to the Twilight Club. They are very much associated with The Illuminati and some esoteric cults. Actually, Nelson county has quite a few cults if you look for them. A place that's very rural and that you'd expect to be very Christian sure has more cults than one might expect. I hope they all realize that Jesus Christ is the way, and the only way.

Cults like The Gathering in Schuyler, VA, have perched in Nelson County in hopes to hide among those who live there and are unaware.

It is such a shame how Phil Delaney has allowed everything to turn to trash. I remember coming to the Valley in the summers with my Grandmother to visit family, and I remember the beauty. I remember eating at the HoJo and all the gift shops.
I went there today to show my significant other the hotel because I kept saying how wonderful it would be to own it. Of course it's not for sale. It's a shame that the community doesn't get involved and make him bring the buildings to code and restore the beauty.
So sad to see everything turn to trash. I can't imagine what tourists think when they come of 64.
