Everyone should have a photo id there is no reason why an adult should not have some form or obtain a pic id. I see no problem with the law as a black man myself. If you are to lazy to get a id or take the steps to obtain one, its probably best you don't vote anyway.

If they can go to Richmond to cash a lotto ticket they can find their way to a DMV,

Can't wait to read the brillant statement from the ACLU. Only the libs will make a big deal about this issue as they are big fans of every voter having 2,3,4 votes!

Sort of confused at your connection here. What does cashing a lotto ticket have to do with this??

"Albemarle County Registrar Jake Washburne is still picking through the details of the bill, but says the measure will mean more work for his office, and less space to do it in."

Too bad. No sympathy. You work on our tax dollars while the rest of us have it much worse than you do.

Just shut up and do your work.

The time to complain about this was before this law was pasted. Don't know how much voter fraud there is in Virginia, but I would say the lack of uniform voting machines are causing more voiting problem in the state. Now going to have to take grandmother at 94 to DMV for an ID. Has not missed an election in over 70 years.

On large lotto winnings, you have to have an photo ID. Also I think the person was making a slightly racial bias statement.

so having to prove who you are to vote is okay but having to do so to buy a gun is a dastardly violation of my right to bear arms...guess voting isn't a right anymore...as always, to see what wrong, look right

If the government can arbitrarily place conditions on your rights, they can certainly take them away just as easily. ID cards make sense from a common sense standpoint but think about what this law is really doing.

Sorry buddy, but to buy a firearm from a FFL dealer, you must have two forms of ID with matching addresses, and one of them must be a photo ID. No, there is no requirement for ID for private sales between individuals, but if I didn't know you, I'd ask for one. In fact, if I don't know you, we're going through a FFL and you WILL need one.

What is this law really doing? The SC ruled that voting is NOT a right, but a privilege granted or withheld at the discretion of local and state governments.

To buy a firearm in Virginia you have to show ID before the purchase to the FFL. For "Assault Weapons" you have to show proof of citizenship. Both require a background check.

If you buy a firearm from an individual, there is no requirement, but I don't know anybody who would sell to an individual they didn't know to be lawfully able to purchase/posess a firearm (mostly becuase they could be held liable in a civil suit if they didn't reasonably know the buyer to be eligible).

You'll be taking her to the Voter Registration Office, not the DMV. The wait time will be less.
