When i lived in Derry 2 years ago My daughter was attacked by a cat and had to get treated at the Er. I called the animal catcher and he said he was too busy to be bothered by cats. The lady that owned the cat was investigated and was told to keep her cat inside since the cat has attacked before. The next day the cat was roaming free. I called again and they told me that the cat is sad to be inside and won't do it again, and to keep my daughter away from it. If anyone in Derry thinks any of theese people are going to help you with this problem you will be sadly mistaken. I feel it's a shame that they care more about the cats getting destroyed or being unhappy than about our childrens safety!!!!! What is a licence going to do about this problem? The people in charge of this will make sure no animal is destroyed and could care less about any human or property.

I can't see this article but i assume the licence will be for every cat owned a license must be bought? I doubt this makes a difference. I can't see it being inforced so I do understand you there. But I will say this, I agree with who ever told you to keep your children away from strange animals..not just cats. A cat usually will not attack unless provoked so your child was probably wanting to hold the cat I assume...if not the cat is probably ill and your child should stay away from it anyhow.

Rabies is running rampant still in indiana county....you may not hear it on the news often but a woman just got bit by a rabid cat about 3 weeks ago.

Cats AND dogs are the problem...lets not ignore that fact. The root of all of this is ignorant owners who are too lazy to spend 60-100 to spay and neuter thier pets...which inturn causes unwanted kittens/puppies who end up going to more unwanted homes, or just left wild. IF there was a law that all pets owned that are not purebred and used for breeding were spayed and neutered I can guarrentee that sights like im sure we all witness daily (feral cats,...dogs roaming --getting hit by cars shot by people etc-Feline Luekemia, Rabies, Distemper) would all be deminished not to mention there'd be a major lack of homeless animals.

Point of my rambles is keep your children away from unknown animals....and get off your ass and spay and neuter your animals.

I feel you are wrong to say that my daughter provoked the cat. I was there watching her and she just walked bt it and it attacked. If you have an animal keep it inside, on a leash or fenced up. If you know your animal is vicious than have it destroyed or keep it inside. I am so sick of people having more compassion for animals than childrens safety. I really hate the fact that people have been attacked by this cat on more than one occasion and there is nothing done to the owners. My 85 year old neighbor was also attacked by the same cat walking by it. I guess she provoked it to. The point is that this licence thing will not be inforced. It wont do any good because responsible pet owners don't let their animals stray. Responsible pet owners don't have vicious animals running free.

I for one am fed up with all the cats and dogs running lose in the neighborhood to do their business in other peoples yards. The boro and the police can't seem to do anything about it, or they just don't care. I have found a way to take care of the problem myself.

Uh, I think the odd habit of parents letting their children play in the middle of the street in Derry is more of a threat to the kids than cats are. Derry's the only town where it seems the kids taught that the road is a playground. I'm surprised nobody's been killed yet.

I've got an idea: Instead of worrying about stray tomcats, why doesn't this town WORRY ABOUT CLEANING UP THE RUINS OF THE ICI PLANT? Or here's another one: maybe spend some money ON THE STREETS THAT HAVEN'T BEEN RE-SURFACED SINCE THE KENNEDY ADMINISTRATION!

Nope. Stray tomcats are the REAL problem in Derry. Lol, what are they gonna do? Kill them all? This is a rural town, next to a mountain. There's millions of stray cats around here. Killing a few hundred isn't gonna make a difference. Good lord, I really do live in the Twilight Zone.

Please, keep it to yourself. Cruelty to animals is a crime. If you're poisoning animals, I'd advise you don't advertise it. Most people outside of Derry wouldn't be very impressed with what you're doing. They'd think it's pretty sick. If you get caught, you'll wind up on the news, go to jail, and get fined out the a$$.

it's 11/26/2007 and Derry still has a stray cat and dog problem Ourt so called police do nothing when you call them about this. But one thing for sure is they do gice out speeding tickets, even the lady police officer is gaining weight from just sitting in that car and riding around and doing nothing else. Tow council and mayor it's time you force them to do there job or disband the Derry Police dept.

I being what I consider a responsible cat owner by keeping my cats inside do agree that stray cats are a big problem that needs taken care of for the safety of everyone including the cats. It is not the cats fault as they are animals it is the people who don't get them fixed and let them out. I don't care to clean any more doo-doo than I have to as I have two dogs as well and have already found a few piles of cat doo in the yard. poisoning them is just cruel, plain and simple. Their is a program where they, animal shelters, pick up strays and spay and nueter them, get them thier shots and when they are recovered they are released where they were picked up at. I know this would take some time to reduce the population but the effect would be felt eventually and if any sick animals are picked up they will be HUMANELY euthenized so they won't be on the streets to hurt any ones kids inclding mine.

I completely agree with you. However, this is Derry if you didn't notice. This town is populated mostly by completely inbred hicks and hillbillies. Unfortunately, animal cruelty is about as common here as incest. So yeah...It's pretty common.

On numerous occasions I have gone to Dollar General and bought several cans of cat food and a few boxes of rat poison. I mixed the two and put the mixture back in the cans and put them in my yard. Most of the time the cans are empty by morning.

Cats that stay the fuck out of my garden have nothing to worry about. The ones that dig and shit have dug and shit for the last time.

Wow, you're a complete piece of shit. Hopefully when you're spending eternity in hell, you'll be torn to pieces over and over again until the end of time by all of those cats you killed, you sick freak.

Your town sucks balls and so do you. Derry is a pathetic shithole of a town, and pieces of shit like you DESERVE to live in misery with all the inbreds and junkies. Enjoy the rest of your life in that sad little run-down town you pathetic, cruel prick. The pleasure you gain from killing helpless stray cats will probably be the most excitement you'll ever experience in your life aside from incestuous sodomy.

Oh my God....I never thought of it like that, Tom. You are so right. I have repented and I won't ever do it again. I AM a sick fuck and I am getting counseling since you woke me up to the error of my ways.

Since you are just one of the many caring and wonderful new friends I will gain due to my changed ways, will you please post your address for me so that I can periodically send to you the buckets full of cat shit I will be pulling out of my garden this spring.

Since your 'caring' is without question, I'm sure you'd like to help...thank you so much for showing me the light.

You must have suffered a head injury in the past. The last time I checked, shit is GOOD for gardens. It fertilizes the soil. I don't think it matters what type of animal the shit comes from. I just think you hate cats.

While we're at it, why don't we just poison and kill EVERYTHING. Deer, stray dogs, bear, stray cats, birds, and fish. Let's kill em' all!

I would much rather live near cats than evil, sick, deluded, egotistical retards that are consumed with hate.
Suffering is suffering. Hate is hate. Pain is pain. What you put out, perpetuates.
Try some love and affection ... people ... in all that you do. Our world will be a better place with or without you.
Just try. You will sleep better. You and your kids will laugh more. Your veins won't clog up. Your ulcer will go away. Your bp will go down.
Save a cat from suffering. Watch, and be transformed, as it transforms. See what love and trust produces .... more love and trust. It can happen to you. It can happen to your family.
Then, it will hit you .... I CAN CAUSE THIS IN THE WORLD! You have found God!
Peace.

Why don't you buy a couple of live capture traps and turn the cats over to the humane society.
