Mike sounded like he may be after TW. So prepare to fight for your children. Count your loses and get it together. You better start now.

They could save probably about 200000 if they would cut all central office employees 20000. Why do they need so much money anyways? Why do we need a director of this and that? I can understand someone in charge of testing and special needs but the rest do we really really need them? Averaging a 100000 with supplements they get for this and that is crazy! Also if they don't let some teachers go and just shut the schools down, what are they really saving? School costs? Debbie Jesse and Mike Twigg have stated they believe TW should be shut down next year. We are just screwed on this end of the county
I'm truly sorry that you are losing a school but i have to say something about your comment about being screwed on this end of the county--In 1989 five high schools were consolidated and TW reamined untouched. You have no idea how this felt These were high schools not elementary schools. People in these five communities were as upset as you or more. I keep hearing western end people talk about how bad theyve been treated and that's not true. Ask people who went to keokee, dryden, jonesville, pennington and flatwoods how bad TW was treated when consolidation first came to lee county. You've held on a lot longer than most. Im not saying that I wished this happen to you but the entire county has been affected by consolidation, not just you.

Neighbor, neither our elected School Board member nor Supervisor in District 1 ever supported school closings. The public hearing was required by law. Chadwell and Bailey NEVER were in favor of closing schools. We got what we voted for...yes, we did !

Plant Kindness... at least you, up there in Jonesville got a brand new school! Well if TW shuts down your precious Lee High will suffer, because 70 percent on this end will go to Claiborne or Bell. That will be money out of your school system! Not only is it the school system, its from our roads down here to water.. every county road down here is gravel.. is yours? NO do you go without water for 2 days? NO screwed on this end is understatement.. I wish we was not even part of LEE county!

Someone needs to start a petition to separate lower lee county to make a new county. We would get same state funds and be a lot better off. Our own schools, law, and county seat. I believe you have to have a petition and then it has to go to a vote by the people

Get a clue, genius! Chadwell voted NO on closing the schools and Bailey did everything he could do to keep the schools open!
And this statement is 50% BS Carl Bailey voted to give the school board $300,000 of the $560,000 knowing that if the school board did not get the total amount that they would be cuts and the possibility of closing schools. Jessee and Twigg were on the budget committee of school board and supervisors that meet to "iron out" budget issues and that is exactly what Jessee told them when asked what would happen if they did not get the full $560,000.

People are fighting over matters that the community couldnt help. If it had been left up to us lower lee county people, Ewing would have stayed open and the same goes for you all in Keokee and stickleyville.... But our board worries more about money rather than education.....they will see when those sol testing scores come back next year.... This puts such a damper on all parts of the county it is ridiculous.... But there is nothing we can do about it now, so let it rest and deal with the situation.... I hate it too... My little boy went to Ewing, and I hate the school closed just as much as the next person, but there isn't anything I or we or you can do about it now..... Deal with the situation and make the best of it.....

It is had to provide education when you do not get the money that you need to provide that money. The school board had no choice in the matter. The board of supervisors, Bailey, Rowe, and Slemp only gave them $300,000 of the $560,000 extra that they requested to fully fund the system this year. This extra money had funding to fix problems at these three schools along with other things. This board has cut a lot of pork off the budget, mostly supplements, and yes Chadwell and Harber who voted no on closing the schools did vote to cut the supplements. There is only so much that you can cut. Keokee and Stickleyville have been on the edge of chop block for a long time. They have only been kept open because they had money. When the state and federal money comes in you have to find ways to spend it. Now that the money is not there you have to bite the bullet.

It is disappointing to see the usual bantering about budgets and costs. We all know that money is needed to run a school district. Unfortunately, the children are the ones that suffer in this vote to shutdown and consolidate the schools. The students lose there opportunity for a quality education.
The objection here is that, this whole affair is like a sneak attack on all of the residents and children involved. No alternatives or problem solving was tried or even presented. Just slash and burn. Hopefully, come the next election those responsible will be brought to task on behalf of the children they were so quick to abandon.

They can't control how much money the state gives the county!
