CVS buys 2 former Star sites - Hawaii Business

CVS/pharmacy, owner of 45 Longs Drugs stores in Hawaii, has acquired two former Star Market store sites on Oahu and the former Star pharmacy property on Kihei.

It seems each time I passed by the Moiliili Star Market site, the parking lot was packed, and the few times I entered the store, it was full of shoppers. Sadly, this closing will hurt the many who were within walking distance of the market. Change can be tough for some.

I wonder what CVS is going to do with the site on S. King St across from Stadium Park that a Long's sits on now.

The article says that Longs doesn't own that S.King location they just lease it. So CVS won't have to do anything with it other than just last out the lease or pay to break the lease likely.

well it would be nice to have the community in touch. ewa is down to one grocery store, a community the size of ewa needs WAY more stores

they studied the demographics and markets. if another grocery store made sense at these sites, that would have been done. the property transaction is more important in this case to them. It's business for the sake of business and the profit of owners so if consumers don't like it they have to vote with their wallets.

Now now now Ewa. Really, who shops at a Times or Star? Answer, EBT customers who don't care bout prices or quality.
Their prices are high and are not managed well.
Smart shoppers go to Costco and Walmart for their grocery needs.
But there are a lot of people out there that need meds and other pharmaceutical products. CVS knows this that's why there will be two in your neighborhood. Rejoice, be happy..

Grocery stores in that location have never been able to make a profit. My filipino friends from Ewa Beach all shop at Daiei or whatever the name of that store. Choke selection of fish and produce...
