Ala Moana 1978 - The Christmas puppet show twice a day on the stage. The Continental cafeteria style restaurant where one side was Chinese, the other side American food. Patty's Chinese restaurant. Outside across from KFC was Whitmore's Ribs and the local favorite Evergreen restaurant

The Shoyu Chicken at Patty's was the best I ever ate for some reason. Something (extra sugar?) made it taste so good. My girlfriend used to go their just to get it for me. Barney's Drive in by the airport (still there) was second best for Shoyu Chicken.

Patty's! first time I've ever had frozen peas and carrots in fried rice (now it's common)
My step father (Viet Nam vet) told me that is a southeast asian way of making it.
SURE WAS GOOD!
Barney's? is that the place famous for the teri pork sandwiches?
I remember them (in my swine eating days) being fabulous!

LOL, I made a mistake. It's BYRON'S by the airport with the Shoyu Chicken. I was thinking of Barney's in Ewa Beach(Gone now). Barney's is now a Shiros.

Wasn't there a Lani Moo song? Lani Moo, Lani Moo, queen of Meadow Gold (to the tune of Jingle Bells), but I forgot the rest.

Hi Deb!

I spent some sleepovers on Shafter ('75-'76)
Did you know the Reid family?
Allen, Michael, Susan and their cool dog Otto.
I saw Jaws, The Trial Of Billy Jack, The Hindenburg and more at
the Ft. Shafter theatre.
If you were there then; we probably ate some of the same popcorn.
You had one of the best libraries on the island there,
The sport section was phenomenal!
I was "recruited" to play football for the Shafter Condors right in the bowling alley
one night.
But I was too short to play the position I wanted, which was fullback, I wanted to be like Larry Csonka, you know OLD TIME FOOTBALL!
Frank Lewis, one of my schoolmates, was the star of that team.

Cheers

Damn, a friend of mine's mother cooked there for over thirty years and I didn't even know it until after she retired. Old Hawaii is fading fast, be prepared to become a ghetto suburb of Los Angeles.

" Old Hawaii is fading fast"
Same same!
In the Hitchcock classic Vertigo (1958)
the film's "heavy" says "Scotty, the things the that spell San Francisco to me;
are quickly fading"
YOU AIN'T NEVER LIED!
Right after this weekends N.F.C. championship game, in "my" neighbourhood,
the ancestral home of the Forty Niners, other than myself, I DIDN'T SEE
ONE PERSON wearing a cap, jersey, sweatshirt or t shirt.
Plenty of people out and about, but no visible natives, nor facsimiles.
I was in a taxi which covered about ten blocks of the area.
It wasn't until we were near the Mission district that it began to appear normal;
lot'sa Niners gear, and fans honking their horns, and whooping it up!
Used to be during all those past N.F.C. title games, you didn't even have to
watch the game, you just had to open your window, and could tell by the
cheering (or moans and groans) what was going on in the game...no more.

I never got sunburned as a kid the way I do now.

Haven't the tv weather newspeople stopped reporting the UV index?

Is there a reason for that?

YEA! shows that our ancestors, recent or otherwise, had exquisite taste when choosing a place to
live, LIVE not itinerantly transmute.

They don't report radiation levels from Fukushima either. Only tourist-friendly news allowed. Same way they don't report casualties list from Obama's wars.

Your Homeboy IS indefensible on escalating these illegal wars.
But let me ask you something;
After 9/11 were you one of the many in the cheering section hoping for a pound of flesh
and lower gas prices?...at who's expense?

I didn't vote for any the remaining candidates in the 2008 General election
because they all hinted at exactly that; escalation.

I'll attempt to tie in to this thread;
In 1975 some of the refugees from that tragedy called "Viet Nam" started attending Aliamanu.
I can't imagine what that must have been like, leaving your relatives, friends and culture behind,
and being essentially an exile.

And all those killings and maimings on both sides for nothing,,,not a damned thing.

You mean a pound of flesh from the middle easterners? More like a ton, but from the right people. I'd still like to carpet bomb all of them back to the stone age, to avenge the deaths of the American people that were killed. And I would like to have seen a big-assed Texaco sign over Kuwait after they were liberated. I am a big believer in revenge. I believe in my country and if you fucccck with us, there is a severe price to be paid for it.

Damn! Dude!
War without causalities?
causality |kɔː&#71 2;zalɪti|1 the relationship between cause and effect.( that's from Mr. Webster)
And as far as I know; "the right people" died along with the others when the planes crashed...
I'll demur to your claim of belief in your country, or did I miss the intended tone of
your remark regarding President Obama?
