Just because I don't understand, Why can't they fly over the wave and see it coming, rathar than guess if or when it's going to hit, and how big it actually is?

Umm...the wave is traveling 500 mph and it's landing at 3 p.m. Central with waves from 6-8 feet.

Tsunamis do not show up in deep water, so, you cannot follow them, visually, until they reach shallow water, near a coastline.

It has always interested me that the USA is always interested in helping all other countries in their dilemma's even tho we are the Great Satan and everybody Hates us. I always find it even more interesting that we do not help own own states and territories when there is a natural disaster, eg: Katrina, Andrew, etc.

I also find it very interesting that all of the other countries of the world like France, Germany, Poland, Etc. send up money and help when we have a natural disaster like Katrina, Andrew, etc.

It is massive energy traveling through the water and water does not compress so it is difficult to displace over time. And it cannot be easily seen by conventional radar. It can be seen bu=y satelliet radar, but the technology is not in widespread use yet.

It is not a wave, it is a rise in sea level. Obviously you have never had a foot wet in an ocean before. Take a trip, and learn something, anything.

How's the surf there bra'.....in Minneapolis? Hee hee hee......love it when inlander nobodys tell surfers what's up! Read the article again, brightboy, the word "wave" appears 23 times.......and here's a clip from the 3rd paragraph.

..........The first waves in Hawaii are expected to hit shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday (4 p.m. EST; 2100 GMT) and measure roughly 8 feet at Hilo. Most Pacific Rim nations however did not order evacuations, but advised people in low-lying areas to be on the lookout.

Enjoy the cold! I'll enjoy the surf! Welcome to California.....now go home!

Sarcasm and humor seem to escape you. I saw the Tsunami that hit Phuket on boxing day 2004 as I was on vacation at that time. Also having lived in Tokyo for 20 I'm sure I have a greater understanding of Earthquakes and Tsunamis that some Hick posting from Fly Over country USA.

Hundreds of us did not leave our homes expecting a 6 foot above normal wave.

We would consider a 6 foot wave nothing to even look at.

The "6 foot wave" from a tsunami has killed hundreds, look at history.

The weathermen relayed messages from tsunami center.
