Last year a house I own burned to the ground leaving a pile of rubble and ashes. I paid somebody to remove it as the smell was making the neighbors sick. A few days later I received a citation for doing this without a permit saying that the atty general would be coming for me soon if I did not resolve this. I was required to pay a fine and get a demo permit. Now anybody familiar with this process knows what a real punishment dealing with those obnoxious morons is. I was doing the right thing and was punished for it. Hawaii justice system at work. BYW, a state originated email is warning empoyees that HPD needs money and will be issuing citations for the smallest infractions, such as going 60 ph on the H1 (referred to as a goldmine).

Look at the odds. Let this boy go and over one million residents will be at risk. Close your doors and lock your windows-something is out there.

Let this boy go because he is a juvenile and over one million residents in Hawaii will be in danger. However, this is only my opinion and I am not even a judge.

To Jake; What you are saying is very true. Auto thefts drive insurance rates up, uninsured drivers and you pay an extra premium, burglary, property damage, graffitti, assault, robbery, etc and make sure you do all this before 18 or you will be considered as an adult. The teens are victimizing the citizens and our judges are making us turn the other cheek.

ODDS.....yes you are not the judge but i think our judges need more common sense.....think after years of legal rhetoric they get lost in their decisions and try to make every case equal to another.........so that they dont get sued for unequal treatment......BUT Sometimes its not the judges its the people who actually determine the amount of the sentence they actually have to serve......why do we need someone or a group to second guess our JUDICIAL SYSTEM???????? THE JUDGE AND JURY DECIDE THE PENALTY AND THATS IT!!! NO TAKE BACKS........THE CRIMINALS GET A BREAK AGAIN....... AS IF CONCURRENT SENTENCING ISNT ENOUGH.........PEACE IM OUT MY BLOOD PRESSURE IS GOING UP.........LOL

To My Crime: I sympathize with you. Why pick on you? You didn't hurt anyone. Where is the justice in this state? I think you meant well, but that doesn't seem to count. Also, I cannot rule in your favor because I AM NOT A CERTIFIED JUDGE.

Definition of concurrent sentence according to our judges: Commit multiple crimes and you pay for one. The professional criminals are having a field day in the Hawaii court rooms.

Our system is backwards. We don't treat criminals harshly (longer sentences) if they have any sort of mental problems. Why? To commit murder, I would think ANYBODY has some type of mental problems - so, with that logic, the whole charge of murder shouldn't exit. Also, aren't people with mental problems MORE dangerous (less able to adjust their behavior to social norms) to society? We need to seriously re-think how we deal with criminals.

My feeling is that when a person commits a horendous crime the person must have been in some kind of mental state of disturbance. Our natural response is that the crime was crazy. Nobody in their sane mind could have committed that crime. I personally think that a person with a mental disorder should pay for the crime just like you and me. I might be a little crazy myself but fortunately nobody supports me on this.

The focus now in the Ertell case is not the offender and the crime he committed, but on Judge Frances Wong's slow process of trying to determine what to do. How long can she take? Is there a time limit? Is she waiting for retirement so she would not have to decide. Who is her boss?

WE DONT WANT MORE MURDERERS ON OUR STREETS....SHEESH HE MIGHT MURDER ME NEXT! hope you paid close attention to the recent murder in waikiki! judgement-day

People who commit crimes are most likely very capable of committing another crime. The judges don't care because the victim is already dead and they don't think another victim will die. How many people do you have to kill before our judges wll wake up. My rough count is you can kill two people just like the two-for-one deal that is advertised in our stores.

He needs to be prosecuted as an adult, the public don't want Judge Frances Wong to get this one. She'll give him probation and he will murder again before he's an adult. That's the great Hawaii Judicial system in action.

Maybe if it was Tommy Waters, Jeffery Hawk or Frances Wong's family member that was raped and murdered they would have a whole different outlook. These dirtbags making asinine decisions that affect the public's safety.
