Why do these projects continue to get approval when traffic is already unbearable in Ewa?

Improve the road infrastructure FIRST before continuing building more homes and businesses out here!

What a screwed up state we live in thanks to our corrupted government officials.

If you don't live in Ewa don't profess to know what we need or our most desired solution. This center is a long time coming and will allow us to finally obtain what we need without heading to Waikele or Kapolei. So think re-think your rant.

With these new planned retail developments, hopefully it will alleviate the traffic congestion on the H-1 freeway on Saturdays and Sundays. Motorists and shoppers will have an alternative to shop in the Ewa area instead of driving into metro Honolulu. With many homes in the surrounding vicinity, making the shopping center mass transit friendly will greatly benefit the community and residents alike.

"What you do Ewa, stays in Ewa. At least until the traffic clears up."

Yeah, backazzwards, let the Ewa peeps have more traffic! If they have more stuffs on the plain, they will never come to our towns, they will stay there.

Economy- is something wrong with the Ewa water? Keep your traffic, keep your terrible infrastructure's future. Good Ruck!

What backazzwards was saying in the beginning is that in many of these "mainland" style developments, the developers pay for the streets and infrastructure in the area, instead of the tax payers. A road like Fort Weaver would have been 4 lanes from the very beginning if this were done on the mainland instead of starting with two and pay much more money and interruption of service of adding one lane at a time. I don't live in Ewa Beach, but I don't know anyone who wants to sit in that Fort Weaver road traffic.

Just look at the roads around the new "second city" downtown kapolei area. I'd have a hard time believing they could get more than 3 lanes out of those streets. If the city or state is serious about moving a large amount of businesses there... it is just plain poor planning. Look at the traffic trying to get in and out of the mcdonalds area. I only go there on saturday afternoon, but I'd have a hard time believing that it is much nicer during the work week. 2 lanes seems to be the defacto standard for development in this state. If they were like computers, we'd still be using 8" floppy disks. After all, who at the time imagined needing more than a full megabyte of date storage?

Ewa Beach's commercial/retail offerings are sorely lacking in these three areas:

1) health/fitness center
2) movie theater
3) department store like Target

It is my sincere hope that Laulani Village developers will come to their senses and add one ore more of these three items to the new center. We need them badly to have local access to these services and to keep cars off the roads out of Ewa Beach.

Having a Safeway would be nice, but it's lower on the priority list since Ewa Beach already has a Foodland and Star Market.

Hopefully the developer will be responsible and connect all roads leading to this new development. Mass transit sounds like a brilliant idea! Intelligent planning is in dire need for this densely populated area. Too many vehicles; too many people creates an unhappy lifestyle. Wake up developers!!! The mentality of "build it and they will come; is so overrated.

I would love to see Whole Foods and/or Trader Joe's in Ewa Beach. This shopping center will mean less traffic and less money spent on gas. I only wish they were building a full-fledged mall.

I agree with you! Why are they opening another pet store? Ewa has one, why don't they open movie theatres, fitness center! Those are good ideas. And yes fix the traffic problems first!

I think that if you look at the plans that where originally drawn up for this site it was great it looked like something that the community could use and really rally around.(see link of original plan) http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h208/Disarc... and then compare what they have scaled down and redone. It might as well be another random grouping of Chinese/Korean/Deli takeout places or cheap jewelry shops no one goes into. This need to be something special, I think they got it right the first rendering, the latest one just plain sucks.(see the link of the latest version) http://retailhi.com/featured_properties/laula...

This is about the people who live in Ewa Beach, I agree with the need stop or slow down of building houses, but now they need to focus on infrastructure and amenities that the people who live out there on the plain, need so they don't have to jam the roads trying to get out of there to go to a movie, workout at a gym or even enjoy a quality meal at a nice restaurant. I think your rant is without much though for the community that is already there, so that makes your comment bunk.

Health and fitness? Have you seen the sizes of the residents there? They are beyond fitness, open more macdonalds and pizza hut.
Movie Theater, perhaps, but you cant charge more than a dollar or else nobody show up.
Target? Cool, another store to shoplift from.
theres a large military population here. TONS of joggers in the evenings. Theres a lot of nice, young families here

Interesting how the idea is to make it closer for me to drive there. The dependence on driving is being designed into yet another huge project of mostly franchise/mainland brand enterprises. How sad that the only thought there is- is making it easier for the huge people in their huge vehicles to gobble up even more land for asphalt, concrete and fast food. When Hawaii wakes up from its development fantasy the land will be destroyed and people left with no accessible food and other essential markets easily reached by walking, bikes, trolley, etc. Pitiful.

Thank Henry Eng at the DPP for rubber stamping all the massive developments without proper infrastructure. Add this to all the ag land they keep allowing developers to ruin and the mountainsides that Mr. Eng permits developers to build on.

Auwe! When will this madness end? When will real city planners run the show and not stooges that approve every plan the developers bring as long as the fees are paid and the forms are complete.

More storage space for the shoppers who bought too much.
