Side idea. You never know who you are REALLY talking to. That's a fact.

The Observer wrote: One fact of life is being ignored. The human body is composed mostly of 4 parts: muscle, bone, nerve and brain. If you break a bone, it heals stronger than ever. If you hurt a muscle, it, too will heal. Nerve damage sometimes heals partly but brain damage rarely recovers. Some are Muscle Dominant and some are Brain Dominant. The former can not understand the latter. Most coaches and many educators ignore this fact and students that are also muscle dominant consider a beating a test of their man-hood. BUT, the Brain Dominant (or geek) is often permanently damaged and few understand this. Is it worth the risk? Yes, but do we have our brains in our tushes? PLEASE refrain from a personal retort.

The Observer wrote: I think I once observed the ultimate cure for this problem. I served on the board of a school that had a coach that, when he first came, the kids loved and would have stormed the gates of Hell for him. However, after he developed some problem, the medications he was taking caused him to become one that stalked the halls while carrying a stick. One night we got an “emergency called meeting” in which he wanted to quit. The story was that he was stalking the halls with a stick hitting kids right and left. Well, it seems that he hit one “for the times he didn’t catch him.” The kid came home very upset and asked his father what good it did to be a good boy if he was going to get hit anyway. The father explained that the coach/admin had made a very serious mistake and it would not happen again. He call the admin and asked if he wanted him to come to his house or meet him in the school parking lot. The blow-hard admin told him the lot. When he came, the father calmly told him that if he ever touched his son again, he would spend the rest of his life in a wheel chair with a nurse pouring soup down a pink, plastic tube where his throat used to be. His wife would cry bitter tears but he would not make a sound. The stupid, meat-head coach/admin stormed over to his car window and, when the lights came on, observed the can of Mace, the piece of pipe and the gun on the seat. The shocked admin dropped his jaw and told him he would have him arrested wherein the father turned on the back seat lights and exposed the local Chief of Police who said,“Drop the stick - NOW!” He did and the board dropped him. Wow. Anabolic steroids maybe?

Are you trying to insult me, or merely make the rest of the forum see you for the overbearing bully that you are? Sorry, I tend to be unintentionally callous at times. What I meant is that I think you are projecting YOUR circumstances onto a situation that is not necessarily true here. As I said; WE have gone to the other extreme and it is costing us our country. I am overbearing at times. I have had to be sometimes as most of the time I raised my children while their dad was in the military. I have twice been overseas and if you didn't keep your kids in line you could be involuntarily deported; minus the other parent. Joining the big wide world of adults has proven to be hard for me. We all do the projecting thing sometimes. It's just we need to see when it fits and when it doesn't. As I have stated before; there is a great deal of difference between the presense and little use of a simple paddle; and physical abuse which is what YOU and some others have suffered. If anything; it should serve as a line that should not be crossed. I think that is what you are trying to say, yes? Unfortunatly many of us carry the pain of emotional and physical abuse with us for much of our adult lives; even when the situation has changed. THAT is where we sometimes need help in letting go of it. Easier said than done sometimes. Again, pardon my callousness, please. Personally, I am more for a change in teaching method to mostly training than ruling by fear. You see, whenever we have discussed ANY sort of discipline in THIS country, instead of offering good solutions that don't permanently marr a person or endless complaining about how the world is, SOME come in with the most extreme circumstances to PROVE that nothing at all should be done.

Pax. That's big of you to apologize so gracefully. I respect you for that. I agree with what you say about a deft smack on the bottom not being child abuse. I suppose my point is that it is the parents job to discipline their children. Actually, I think it should be the mothers who do it, rather than fathers. I think that mothers should be homemakers. They are forced into the workplace and do not have enough time to spend with their children. Mothers should have time to spend with their children. What on earth are our governments thinking of, forcing mothers to go to work? What are they thinking of allowing endless filth onto our television screens? Allowing all our public spaces, parks and meeting places to be frittered away to big businesses, so that our wholesome, simple family pleasures are replaced with casinos and massive supermarkets and malls? Family life is not valued here in the UK, and I expect the same is going on where you live too. We are all consuming far too much of everything and our communities are suffering. I hate spanking, the stuff they did to the kids in school. It messed a lot of kids up big time. It's one thing to justly punish a kid, quite another to publicly humiliate them. A lot of the older generation in the UK have fetishes now, especially Londoners. I know that many of the Wonderland Club paedophiles were abused as children. It's a vicious circle that needs breaking.

i'm 16 and i have had no fear of teachers or anything they say or do this is because they do nothing. they say stand outside or go home your excluded. i think they should spank a child if they are bad not for little things but for big things like throwing things at a teacher or kicking someone. but i think it should be done in the privacy of an office rather than in front of loads of people. they will then learn they should not do bad things. but they should not do it in a temper or with a cane unless a crime has been commited.

When people are angry not good say you shouldn't be angry. There is unjustice and people have resons why they are angry. Best to resolved the issue with reason and understanding. Our children are dealing with many issues.

Cracy Americans!
In Germnay, corporal punishment is forbidden completely, even at home. In the US it's allowed.
Question: why is the criminal rate in the US about 100 times higher than in Germany?
