These series are good:

Ranger's Apprentice: The Ruins of Gorlan (first of 11 books) by John Flanagan (movie in development)

The Last Apprentice: Revenge of the Witch (first of 8 plus books) by Joseph Delaney (movie in development)

The Hunger Games (first of 3 books) by Suzanne Collins (movie in development)

A really good series I've read is the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. I am 11 and highly recommend the series to slightly advanced readers 11 or under, and anyone else interested in Greek Mythology.

If you like Greek mythology, you'll love 'The King Must Die' by Mary Renault.
