Is there a Ma./Everett law pertaining to parking on the street across your own driveway blocking it. I have a neighbor that parks across his own driveway on the street. The back of his car is within a foot or less of my driveway and when I back out with my truck I have a hard problem. I cant make the swing and have to back into the snowbank across the street. I have to back and forth about 3-4 times before I can clear his car. I now have a plow and its almost impossible to do this. I have had words many times over the years about this with him and he gives 2 shits about this.
I called the Everett parking office and they told me it's against the law to park and block your own driveway. They told me they would leave a note for the night parking officers and nothing yet. I called again Tuesday this week and was told they would leave another note and this morning nothing on the car as I left for work.
Has anyone have this problem in Everett or other local towns? Is there a city law, Ma. Law prohibiting you from parking across your own driveway on city streets and hindering a neighbors driveway from him/her getting in and out of his own driveway?

thanks

Yes there is an ordinance against parking across your own driveway. Call the city clerk (Mike Matarazzo) for a definition of the ordinance. I would also call the EPD, they must know if he can or cannot legally park that way. If no notes are being left, it makes one wonder,? is he 'connected' to someone in the city?

Why can't you park in front of your own driveway?

It's not a city ordinance, it's a state law. If their is an emergency you need to be able to get your car out of the driveway and if their is another car blocking the front then tthey can't be moved.

I don't understand why someone would block a driveway rather than park in it. I would think it's safer from getting hit if you are IN the driveway. If someone does that all the time, then they know it bothers you and they are being jerks. I would block them right in so they cant go forward or backup. You have to give it back to ignorant people.

My neighbor does that because they have 2 cars in their family. The dad parks in the driveway and the son parks in front of it.

Half the people in this city can't drive forward, let alone back out of a driveway.

I think that people that park across driveways are inconsiderate. I have that problem and constantly and I just decided that the tenants just don't care the owner of the property lives in Jackson, New Jersey and I have not seen him lately. I am going over to the Police Department and Town Hall tomorrow to see what can be done. A ticket was issued once but it continues to happen so I want to see just what is going to be done. If I have a picture of the vehicle and the license plate, do you think they will issue a ticket?

By that train of thought, it would be illegal to park 2 cars in the driveway one behind the other.

We have the same problem in Fall River,Ma..among other things with that house hold..get this, they are running a towing trucking company from home.. park in the middle so u can't park in or back & also park in front of their driveway that they park in which is empty most of the time bit will park there when they feel like it..they are luckily now bein investigated by the city itself..it's so frustrating to have either really, really dumb adultsnout there or really ignorant 1's..in an case both need to be dealt with..

Take a picture to city hall Parking Dept. With the Car and License plate #. Exactly what Idid and the Person got 3 tickets before he realized can't park across a driveway. When this happend to me by him parking there it was a convience for him and made it tough for me to back out of my own driveway. They will send the overnight parking to the address lv a ticket and a piece of paper telling them can't park across the driveway. The thing in my case would be they would park 1-2 feet into my driveway and gave 2 shits. Always blocked my dr way so I could not get in. Nothing but arguments for 20yrs+. Ignorant people who do that. Good luck go to city hall the girls will help you.

I have the same problem with my neighbors across the street. I have called the police about it, and they don't know if it is illegal or not, but I am sure it is because if everyone would park across their driveways(even on one side), it would be impossible for traffic to flow freely up and down my street because opposite traffic would have no where to pull to the side to let on coming traffic get by. Someone would have to back out of the street to let the other pass. This is called "Obstructing Traffic".

Would you be happier if he took up another parking spot on the street? It's not like you can park in front of his driveway anyways.

It's not legal. Driveway entrances are not as wide as regular parking spaces, which could cause a visibility problem to other motorist who have to make legal turns. Parking in front of your own driveway is just creating a hazard, not to mention you are blocking access, your own or not.

Are you the Topix police?

People can say what ever they want on a PUBLIC blog. You say people have too much time on their hands then you respond to it??

Get a job but you better make nice with Suffolk Downs cuz looks like the casino is going to Revere. Bye Bye Everett United and Wynn.
