Everett mayor clarifies casino remarks
Posted: Dec 14, 2012 4:17 AM PST Updated: Dec 14, 2012 4:17 AM PST EVERETT, Mass.(AP)- The mayor of Everett says he misspoke when he told a public meeting this week that Las Vegas casino developer Steve Wynn has secured a lease on a 37-acre parcel of land on the Mystic River in the city. Mayor Carlo DeMaria Jr. on Thursday said in a statement that he understands there are exclusive negotiations ongoing between Wynn and the owners of the land. The land has been mentioned as a possible site for a $1 billion resort casino. A spokeswoman for the state gambling commission tells The Boston Globe (http://b.globe.com/QYi3Ep ) the Wynn group is scheduled to meet with commission staff this week. Any proposal for the Everett site would be in competition with a possible casino at the Suffolk Downs horse track on the Boston/Revere line. Judged: 3 2 2 I question why Att. Rodrigues did not correct the mayor at the meeting when the mayor "misspoke" Rodrigues did not say a word. Here's the bottom line - The state gambling commission has set Jan 15th as a deadline for casino applicants to submit extensive financial documentation and a $400,000 non-refundable fee. If Wynn is serious, we will know on Jan. 15th. No way he will file a $400,000.00 NON REFUNDABLE fee w/extensive financial documentation (and I don't care how rich you are) if he does not mean business. People that have money have it because they don't spend it foolishly or waste their time on these extensive documents. |

Judged: 3 1 This could kill Everett's casino: Part of the Monsanto site is in Boston Date: Friday, December 14, 2012, 12:03pm EST Steve Wynn says he wants to build a casino on 37 acres in Everett, Mass. Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria agrees that a casino would be a great use for 37 acres, formerly owned by Monsanto Chemical, on the Mystic River. But the site they have in mind is only 35 acres – and 5 of them are in Boston. Believe it or not, Boston's city limit stretches over the Mystic River, encompassing a narrow finger of land on the Everett side, between the former Monsanto site and Route 99. This hadn't been reported until this morning, but it looks like Wynn Resorts (Nasdaq: WYNN) and DeMaria would have to go through that finger – and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino – to pull the first busload of tourists into their planned palace of chance. Never mind the soil, shot through so thoroughly with chemicals that a utility worker reportedly told a WGBH reporter the groundwater is "like jello." Never mind the checkered past of the real estate development group that owns the land: Two months after the Massachusetts casino law passed, the group scrubbed one partner from its official documents. He had been convicted in 2004 of insurance fraud related to a case of Chelsea arson. Never mind all that. Looking at the assessors' maps alone, this nascent casino deal is a head-scratcher. It's all laid out in this week's print edition of the Boston Business Journal (premium content). It's a good thing Boston is a two-daily town. The Boston Globe initially left it to the Boston Herald to correct a story that the Globe ran, in which the Everett mayor reportedly said Wynn had already signed a lease for 37 acres at the former Monsanto site. The mayor's office rowed back that comment on Wednesday, but Globe print readers didn't learn about DeMaria's "clarification" until Friday morning. Neither paper has reported on the stretch of Boston land that could keep Everett from becoming Greater Boston's Crystal City. The principals couldn't answer the question either. DeMaria hasn't returned my calls. Wynn's Boston spokeswoman also offered the 37-acre figure, then couldn't explain where the extra 2 acres are coming from. She said Wynn proposes to keep his proposed casino's footprint entirely in Everett, but didn't say how. She was having a hard time reaching the project's real estate lawyer, she said. Steve Wynn has a great reputation for making money, like the casino he savvily developed in Macau. He's also known for splashy statements, like political, economic and cultural lectures during Wynn Resorts earnings calls. Will the Everett casino just end up as another splashy statement? Maybe a card counter could guess at Wynn's game, but I can't. His statements in Everett seem to have lit a fire under Menino, who tentatively supports a Suffolk Downs casino. It will be interesting to see what card Wynn leads with next. |

Wrong. |
What's wrong? It's a article that is true. Look online. Boston is right at Monsanto and Wynn's people are aware and have no answers on what to do. These Everett DOPES claimed that 2 acres of land was in Everett when in fact it was Boston. This is public knowledge. |

Judged: 1 1 1 It's pronounced the "line" but is actually spelled "Lynde" for Lynde Street and Lynde Street park. I think the reference might have been a joke, because at the casino meeting, the mayor said he did not want to hear it called "The Lynde" anymore. As far as the casino, there are a lot of inconsistencies so I know I will reserve judgement until Steve Wynn signs the lease (which did NOT happen) contrary to what people were told by the mayor. Now come to find out, that Monsanto site runs 2 acres into Boston. Who knows what's going on.. |
The 2 acres that the clueless reporter is talking about has always been there. Anyone that knows anything about that site including the owners of the property know its there and Mr. Wynn knows it there. It has nothing to do with the casino deal. If you want to be in the know go to google maps and type Everett Ma and look at the aerial view.

Judged: 1 Really, then why when the "clueless reporter" published his report he did a follow up call to Wynn's people who admitted that they were not aware about the 2 acres, and was not sure how to proceed. You cant have a casino in two cities, even if it's 2 inches. You also cant be right up to the Boston line either. |
Its on the other side of the small channel. Not on the property they want to build on. Look it up. Funny how this reporter is the only one that knew about it OR is talking about it. Well actually i guess he's not the only D O P E talking about it. We will get to vote on this and I bet it will pass 80 to 20 percent. See you at the polls SUCKER!!!!!! |

oooooooooooooooh good come back rug doucher.... |

Thanks! I never knew that but will always refer to that area as the "Lynde." I still refer to the "Village, Glendale Park, Everett Springs," etc. I guess I'm getting old. |

Hi Just Reading. Where is Everett Springs? What are the names of other areas of Everett?
The 2 acres has always been there. No shit! |
Judged: 1 1 Everett Springs is the Ferry St/Chelsea St area. Everett Heights is where the Mayor lives - lol |
