I got a phone call on this two nights ago. They told me to pull out my bill and was going to go over savings. Scary that I hear they are going door to door. I remember they were called (Just energy) she got pushy, so I hung up on her.

They are walking up County Road now {Thurs. 7:08pm} going door to door. Told me they were from the energy company and go get get your energy bill to see how much I could Save....

Is this a scam or not? If it's not...don't they need permission to go door to door in a certain city, and why where we not notified? We get notified everytime a dog takes a crap on the streets around here.

More info on deceptive sales and marketing by US Energy Savings now operating as Just Energy.US energy savings is an alternative energy supplier that makes millions selling natural gas to home and businesses. Last night CBS 2 Investigate disclose how it salesman use apparently deceptive tactics to sign customers to five years fixed rate contract. Now Pam Zekman reports those tactics have gotten the company in big trouble with the Illinois Attorney General. US Energy Saving and its 5 offices around Chicago are feeling the heat tonight. The attorney general office has filed this lawsuit citing more than 3000 complaints in the last 36 months about the company’s sales tactic. Ranging from false statement of savings, to false offers, to cancel contract without a penalty.“It’s horrible they’re taking advantage of senior citizens, they’re taking advantage of people who don’t speak English, they’re taking a advantage of everybody.” People like Fabiola Giarza, who speaks very little English. US Energy Savings convinced her that she will save money by signing a contract to pay it $1.19 per therm, almost double what she was paying for with Peoples Gas. If he understood that with you ever have sign this contract? Of course not As a trainee, our undercover producer learns salesman are taught to tell customers they’ll save money. A claim this company official told me it’s not approved. Then how does he justify his name “US Energy Savings”?

They are very pushy, about getting their hands on our energy bill. They also said that they charge a $100 dollar cancellation fee if you back out of the contract within 5 years. They were on Valley St last week. Don't answer your door unless you feel like getting harassed!

BTW, heads up for another scam in Everett,
I got a letter in the mail saying I could get a $1500-$8000 refund on my mortgage.

It had my loan amount/date/name/etc on it,
except no return address, just their phone number,
and the initials 'ACT' in the corner.

It's a scam,
you have to pay for a mortgage audit up front,
and they try to find amounts you overpaid.

(I didn't call, quick interwebz check showed it to be BS).

@Delilah - The utility is mandated by the DPU to provide a customer information list to suppliers in order to expand the range of competitive options available to consumers in Massachusetts.
You can visit your utility website and learn more about it there.

2- That lawsuit is from 2007. This company has put many consumer protection practices in place since that time including changing its name from US Energy Savings, implementing a verification phone call, offering variable rates with options to lock-in, and extending cancellation rights to 30 days from a customers first bill with the program.

ADT has 3402 complaints with the BBB in the last 3 years A+ rating
Verizon (NEW ENGLAND) has 710 - F rating
Just Energy (North America) has 471 - A- rating

Just because you have never heard of them, does not mean they are evil. Hope that helps.

I was told that there is a $500 dollar fee if I cancel within 5 years so they were going to give you a savings! Ha,ha.

I believe I am being sccammed I was told as long as my account is active with the company I will not be charged anything now I have a balance on my credit report how did you handle this situation?

I think i'm dating myself, but as my grandfather had nailed a small engraved sign above doorbells, stated "no soliciting" well apparently it must work and the people going around must have been informed of signage due to the fact they were on franklin st area, seen sign on my storm door in plain view and left my property without climbing stairs. I belive sign is respected as is a no trespass sign, it will give the police another tool to work with if it is stated clearly and they keep harrasing you. hope this helps conversation.

I realize we need to protect ourselves, but personally I do not like signs on properties (keep out, no soliciting, don't park in driveway, etc.) It doesn't give the neighborhood a friendly feel. I know I wouldn't post anything on my house. Just my opinion.

Wait until they park in your driveway or enter your back yard to pick bottles out of recycling. There's nothing wrong with putting up a no trespassing sign!

To anyone googling, Beware, if they come to your door. Tell them to fuck off. They will try to CONFUSE you in how urgent you need to show your Nstar bill. They are very deceptive in the way talk. I heard someone talking to my mom and they wanted my mom to show them the Nstar bill for savings.

They were pushing that they were representing Nstar. Not outright saying but insuating it. They said that Nstar or the government sent a notice that you have to choose between two energy suppliers and that I was discontinued with my current plan at Nstar.

Was told to relax that I am on a backup plan but because I did not answer the so called letter, Just Energy came to my door to get an answer, which is highly suspiscious. They also offered a discount which made me happy to jump on something like that.

While I was skeptical, I went looking for my bill thinking nothing bad could go wrong since it didnt have anything besides the account number. Luckily I did a quick google search and found they can switch you over to their service just with the account number. A big number of my neighbors got caught in this scam. I usually can sniff out a scam way before they start but I almost got caught, blinded by their attempt to confuse me. I ran them out the door after that.

They have unconventional way of selling you their service by hijacking your account with Nstar, claiming they represent them since they said they supplied energy to them. They tried to mislead me in nonfactual evidence. They are almost saavy professional about it unlike other salesman. Beware and stay away if they come for you.

Do not let them see your bill under any circumstances
They WILL hijack your account

Tell them you are not interested in a Third Party Energy Company
That makes its money by ripping off its customers.

I've had a family member ripped off,
Dealt with a Black Female
Black Male
And two White Males.

The last two were at least polite.
The first two were horribly rude, adversarial and confrontational when I refused their service.
Neither the police, nor the company cared about any of this.
