On the State Ballot in November, there will be a question pertaining to the use of "medical" marijuana.
The Common Council is moving to block medical marijuana treatment centers in Everett.
This is another case of government taking away the rights of citizens, not only to choose to have the benefits of medical marijuana, but also to have the right to vote for it.
What would be the reason to vote for it, if it will be banned ?
Medical marijuana has proven to help people with cancer, glaucoma, AIDS, hepatitis C, Crohn's disease, Parkinson'sdisease, multiple sclerosis.
The Common Council has step up to the present and stop living in the past, and make an effort to help those people who are suffering from these illnesses.

My doctor sent a referral to a doctor in Vermont for me. I hope none of these idiot councilors ever have to go through the nausea of chemotherapy without taking more pills. People with cancer have had enough of pills and chemo. Itís natural and goes back 3000 years. It is a prescription by a doctor in legal states to HELP people. Itís not being sold, as a street drug and I think thatís whereíre these illiterate councilors come off as. Believe it or not, people in Everett do suffer from cancer and if a little natural THC can help you get through a tough/sick time, then whatís wrong with it? I call it political ignorance.

Regardless it's still illegal on the federal level.

They can give people pills with what is in marijuana. This is just people looking to get high plain and simple. Good for Everett.

I dont see the big deal. As it stands now, the Everett police can not arrest you if you have less than a certain amount of marijuana. And, they cant arrest you in your own home. This would be like a pharmacy for people that have CANCER and are tired of taking pills after pills. Give people a break and the dispensary would be run like a pharmacy. No one off the streets are walking in and buying pot for a high, it's for sick people to relax and take nausea away. Who wants more pills to upset your stomach more? My bottom line is if the police cant do much about the street drug under a certain amount, what the heck is wrong with a prescription by a doctor to cancer patients? Shame on you middle class saying all they want is a high. I hope you never have to go through it.

It's because we have old foggies making decisions in this city for us. We need some new blood at city hall! These people are dated.

Why don't they leave it up to the voters ?
I thought this was a country for the people and by the people ... not by the Everett Common Council.

The piece was actually intoduced by the administration; the giveaway is the "as President" clause.

That's not to say that a lot of councilors don't supprt it though.

So it's better than the government dispensing Xanax, Valium, Prozac and I could go on forever of the list of drugs that the government gets doctors to prescribe. Maybe if you stop all of those drugs that you will always have to rely on, you can just take a puff or two when needed and have no anxiety. What you people don't understand the medical brand is not anything like the street type. The medical brands treat all different types of issues, depression, cancer, injury pain...etc. You should educate yourselves more before making a decision on your vote.

then alcohol should be also, its a much worse "drug" than pot and kills many people every day and cost our country much more than week ever will. its a dam joke the pot is not legal yet booze is...total dam joke..its all about the cash! Which is likely why pot will someday soon be just as legal is alcohol is now.

Marijuana is a gateway drug to more addictive harmful drugs. Not wise, I don't believe, to open a pandora's box. From the 'sober houses', rooming houses, etc in Everett now, we certainly don't need any marijuana clinics. Just look around now and see what we have ....

Marijuana is already easily obtainable on the streets of Everett.
This is about a prescription required medication that will benefit our citizens who are suffering from illness or pain from a medical condition.
Why would you want to take this relief away from them ?

The voters in this city have no say over what happens here!! Get with it. Since when does the voters opinion matter to Common council or the Mayor??

@ Jeffrey

A doctor can not prescribe marijuana. They can only recommend.

I would love to know where you got your information proving that it is a gateway drug to more addictive drugs. Did you just make that up?

Why are they trying to take away our rights even before it is voted in by the people? Could it be these old fashioned people running the city are passing judgement, not even informed of the medicanal uses? Maybe they should get educated on the uses of this herbal medicine before jumping to an opinion before the law even gets past. Shows us how dated the people of this city are.

GATEWAY: Do some research on hard core druggies who started with marijuana. It is true marijuana is a gateway drug to more hard line drugs.

DICTATORSHIP IN EVERETT: First of all, it is not a right if it is not legal. Hopefully the voters with nix this idea of marijuana clinics. I don't think Everett's population is dated - educated and smart yes - dated no.

Medicanal = medicinal.

Past = previously (used incorrectly in your post)

Passed = voted into law.(again, used incorrectly in your post).
