Meetings planned to discuss new jail

The Brown County Commission has scheduled public meetings to inform residents about a proposed new jail to be located in Hiawatha, Kan.

Dont let the leaders tell you how this will make the community money by jailing other towns inmates. This was the same song and dance that Doniphan county leaders told us. Look where it got us. A half finished jail with everyone fighting over where we are gonna get the money to finish it!!!!!!!!!!
We were even told in the begining that we were gonna get inmates from HIAWATHA!!!!!!!!!!
Dont fall for it. Just ask them how well it worked out for Doniphan county and the new jail in TROY.

I'm in Nemeha county so I can't vote in that election, but I would if I could.
Vote "No" on all this garbage folks. You get to pay more sales tax so the county can jail more people from outside the area. It does not help the people that live in the area.

I agree with both comments above, and I would like to know more about this proposal. If the Sales Tax fails what happens to the jail plans and how can the public block the building of this new facility. How come this has been slipped in without fanfare or news coverage and can it be blocked at this late date. I think it is a song and dance that I do not want to participate in. John A. McClain

Have any of you been inside the brown county jail? they need a new one or at least renovate the old. unless everyone likes inmates in town.
