electrical question
dont want to fry

Huntsville, AL

My son overflowed an upstairs toilet last night and it like that for awhile. Luckily that bathroom sits above the laundry room in the basement (drop ceiling, concrete floors, floor drain), but one of the places the water dripped down to was right over the light fixture. It blew the bulb, but did not trip any circuit breakers.

I'm taking the soaked tiles out. Is it safe to work around the waterlogged fixture? Not sure where the breaker for that light is (have 2 boxes...badly wired house from 70's ).

When might it be safe to try to screw in a new bulb? Don't want to get fried or zapped.

Thanks in advance. Yes, I'm a divorced female with 2 kids on a tight budget so calling electrician out of question. Becoming one heck of a do-it-yourselfer, but don't want to get injured!!

You will be fine. Let it dry out and then screw the bulb in. The breaker will blow if it is still wet, which is built in safety switch. Good luck

Fred is right. If it is not GF then it can be tricky. If you need some assistance you can send me a message. I can check your wiring and make sure you don't get zapped. It will only take a minute. I do not want to see anyone get shocked. Electricity can be a dangerous animal.
