It depends on the person. There have been instances where a significant number of women have reported experiencing severe side effects which ranged from discomforting to supposedly permanent physical injury resulting in lawsuits being filed by these women against the manufacturer Bayer. Some consumer reports say that most women on Mirena have had no untoward side effects. The only way to know for sure which category you are in is to try going on Mirena yourself, but you should ask a doctor first what you can expect and what options are available to you in case Mirena proves to be a poor fit for you. You may try to refer http://www.mirena-iud.net for more information.

I had merina put in after my second child, at the dr office, with an ultra sound to follow to ensure correct placement. Within 3 months I was pregnant with my 3rd child. So much for that 5 yr leeway. My cycles were so bad that I took darvaset constantly, when they finally subsided I assumed it was the merina making them stop. No it was pregnancy. I do not recommend this product!!! With all the uterin implantations and removal surgeries due to miss placement it is def. not worth it.
