My dad has had them since he was about seven-years-old. My dad said they went away after he hit puberty and he never had a problem with them again. Then things changed and started having seizures again when he was 42 or so. The doctors diagnosed him with epilepsy, Syncope, Aplastic Anemia, and Sleep Apnea. Once we found this really great Doctor, she discovered it was none of the above and basically cured him. Her name is Dr. Salanova and she is the best Neurologist in Indiana she works for IU hospital in Indy. We've been as far as Vanderbelt for medical treatment. I think it really depends on what you have in particular to know if it's hereditary. No one else in our family has ever had a history of seizures before. My sister and I are all completely healthy and never showed any signs of having seizure causing diseased. I think that the only thing you can do is hope for the best and work through any problems your baby might have. Does anyone else in your family have seizures??? I would read up on it more.

When u post something readable i will reply its hard to follow what is the problem is there really so much effort required to make something readable instead of trying to decipher what you mean with this jumbled up bunch of words

I have epilepsy and have for 15 years, since I was 10. Truth is, I'm scared to have kids because of that. My mom told me my grandma on my dad's side had a couple seizures, but I don't think she was ever diagnosed with anything. I haven't had a seizure in about a year, my medicine keeps them pretty well controlled. I accept epilepsy as part of who I am, it sucks being fearful that it can happen anywhere though. I just don't want my future children to have to go through that either.

i no its scary when i think about what he will have to go threw if he does get them and i feel guilty but i was on birth control cause my doctor had told me i cant have kids and if i do givin birth would kill me cause i would go into a big seizure and not make it but the birth control failed and we were so fearful when i went in to have and i was in labor at the hospital for two days and pushin for two hours before they decided to do a c section and i had one seizure before i went to the hospital and that was it and the only complication i had was he got stuck so really doctors arent always right and ya ive learned to except it as a part of me

My wife's family has a history of seizures. Our oldest daughter was diagnosed last October when she was four with Epilepsy. Our youngest daughter has seizure like symptoms, but she was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy about two months ago, she is three.

No. My dad had the grand mal siezures..the really bad ones, and I didn't have them...so I wanted to know if they could test my daughter to see if she'd have them...you know they say carts in things skip generations..but they couldn't...they're not bad...depends on what kind the grand mal ones are the worse..but it's something you most definitely can deal with..if you know what you're dealing with and get him proper medication

If you don't mind me asking, was your child born with any birth defects? And are/were you on medicine? I'm on lamictal/lamatrogine (the generic form) and supposedly it's one of the safest anti epileptic medications to prevent birth defects. At least that's what my neurologist told me. Who do you go to?

OK, thanks. I don't really know anyone who has epilepsy so that information is helpful. Well, my bfs mom does but she developed it after an aneurysm just a few years ago so she didn't have it when she had children. Thanks again! I know not all cases are the same but it does ease my mind a little bit.
