Homeless people holding signs. Real or fake?

Ok, I've been seeing a few homeless people around town lately, holding signs saying homeless, need help, God bless ect ect. See one guy on 41south and lloyd exit, another at 41 north and Lloyd exit. And today I saw a new one at First Ave and Diamond holding a sign that just said "homeless". He looked to be in his late 20's and very healthy. He looked like he was trying really hard to be homeless looking. He was wearing a bandana, sweat shirt, shorts AND he was wearing one tennis shoe on one foot and one flip flop on the other foot. Really? My kids see these people and ask if I'm going to help them. I can't help but to think there faking and there just scamming people for money. My kids think I'm horrible for not helping them. I just want to do a stake out and follow them and see where they go when they leave there. I would bet money that there leaving there, getting into there cars, and driving back home. I hate it that I think that way, and if I knew for sure if they were truly homeless, I'd be the first to help. What do you think?

I saw a guy standing on the corner of Morgan and Green River one day holding a "homeless" sign, I thought about going to McD's and getting him a few items off the dollar menu, then, I seen him pull a cell phone out of his pocket. No McD's from me!

I agree with Just my thought...I think many people can relate to what you are saying. The sad thing is the ones that are faking are damaging to the ones that truley need help as it makes people more leary that it's a scam. It's sickning that people can go out every day knowing they are taking advantage of someone while also hurting someone that could really be in need. I've seen the local news and other programs do specials on this exact topic and people giving these "supposive" homeless food to catch it being thrown away on tape or offered a job at Walmart and being told "No, I make more money doing this." To bad they can't be stopped by police, investigated and charged with fraud.

Keep your McDonald's. My palate prefers steak and lobster. One may be poor, but one can be well fed poor.

Wonder if it's the same guy I seen on the corner of green and Morgan. I actually took him back a big Mac meal and he threw it down and got shitty.

I think the city should have a investigator take appropriate action to follow these people from their end of shift on the corners, if these solicitors soliciting people, they should be porsecuted and pictures placed in newpaper and on tv to let the public see their faces...

There are programs such as safelink that give homeless and poor people cell phones with 300 minutes a Month.

And paid for by our tax dollars. You know don't you that they trade those phones to other homeless people so they can buy booze?

Some I believe are truly homeless and need some love and there are others whom I think are druggies/alcoholics looking for their next fix...go buy them a burger and see if they truly appreciate it then you'll know....

Now I know that you're just a selfish hateful person because that particular program has regulations and monthly verification requirements so, no they don't trade them.

One of the news channels done an investigation on a guy that use to hangout at the entrance to the old walmart on the west side. He had a prosthetic leg and used that to get money of course. When the camera followed him to his car then to his nice ranch brick home in a nice subdivision I never seen him out there again. After that I have had a hard time giving to people claiming to be down on their luck. Instead you can get a

You can get a list from some elementary schools of kids and families needing help. Adopt a family for Christmas if you wanting to help less fortunate people.

You bunch of greedy 1% Republicans would rather see children starve than share your money. President Obama is right in taking away from the middle class and rich to give to the poor. It is long time that the poor got their share finally. They have slaved for years so you rich could sit around on your duffs collecting the riches from the sweat of the poor.

Because they work for it. You have to earn your share. What does the poor do to earn my money?

If you give with good intentions then that is all that matters. People who do wrong always end up paying for it. My uncle used to be on 41 and the Lloyd. His sign said homeless... will work for food and money. He made picnic tables, did physical labor, and all lines of other jobs from people who took him up on the offer on his sign. He would buy food and pay for hotel rooms so he had a place to sleep. Yes he made bad choices before and most likely during this time period, but he was good for his word and tried very hard to quit using drugs. If you don't want to give or question the person you are giving to then it is better just to keep your money.
