Why is there not a candidate to run against Brad King for States Attorney? I have heard countless stories of citizens fed up with his antics. Horror stories of the way he operates. How then does his position not go contested?
This man is given free reign to continue. The way he speaks to voters is atrocious.
I sure hope one day he is investigated by the commission on ethics. He may not be legally immoral, but where there's smoke, there is fire.

Lawyers compete for public defender post

Thirteen candidates who spend a lot of their time in courtrooms, including State Attorney Brad King and a dozen judges or judicial hopefuls, will face no opposition this election year because they drew no challengers in the 5th Circuit which covers Lake, Sumter, Marion, Citrus and Hernando counties.

But there is one race on the ballot between a pair of lawyers who both want to replace long-time Public Defender Howard "Skip" Babb, who plans to retire after 20 years on the job.

Without opposition, King will serve another four-year term as state attorney. He first won the job in 1988. Before that, King served as a prosecutor.

Babb, 64, has served almost as long, since 1992. He currently runs an office that handles 20,000 cases a year and has 60 attorneys on staff.

Seeking his job are Mike Graves of Tavares and Bo Samargya of Inverness. Both Republican candidates filed election qualifying paperwork in Tallahassee for the race that will end with the Aug. 14 Republican primary.

Graves, of the Graves and Spivey law office on West Main St. in Tavares, lists a net worth of $202,539. This includes real estate assets of $525,000 and personal assets of $155,000, offset by mortgages and loans. Unlike Samargya, Graves lists nearly $10,000 at his disposal for campaign expenses.

Graves, who worked under Babb as an assistant public defender from 1984 to 1990, when he began to work in private practice, primarily as a defense attorney, has said he has aspired to be public defender for quite a while.

Samargya, who lives in Brooksville and practices in Inverness at the Robitaille and Samargya law office, lists a net worth of $261,000. This includes about $590,000 in assets offset by mortgages. He lists no campaign finance activity.

Samargya has worked as an assistant public defender in Seminole County and an assistant state attorney in Orlando before going into private practice. He has said his varied background -- working for public defenders and state attorneys as well as in the private sector and as a conflict counsel, providing representation for indigent clients -- uniquely qualifies him for the job.

People here around Tavares say that Graves has been twice suspended by the Florida Bar regarding cocaine use. Is this true or not? We need to know before we vote for him.
That's just not true. Some people are misinformed and others intentionally spread false rumors. Mr. Graves got in trouble once (and only once) for not responding to letters from the Bar. You can find that information online. If you ask him, he'll tell you about it. I'm sure he wishes that he had written them back.

It is true they let him slide once without suspension and making him take the sign off the office. But the second time he had to take the sign down for a suspension.

"For not responding to letters from the Bar alright." It was moe like trying to ignore their attempts to contact his regarding his pending case. The facts are all there and as everyone knows it was about about illegal drug use. He was too busy responding to O'Keef's Bar to respond to the Florida Bar.

Like most of Tavares' socially elite he knows he is above the law. He can do as he pleases and no one will do anything about it. He just might have a fooling coming this time because "the people" is sick and tired of this crap.

Even when he filed to run for office in Tallahassee he failed to submit the propery paperwork and like he done with the bar did not respond.

Click on this link and under ACCOUNT NAME type in GRAVES to see his entries with the Florida Elections office.

And for those who have been looking for a prime example of an OXYMORON you just had it handed to you on a silver platter. LAKE COUNTY HONESTY is a misnomer no such thing exists in any government agency in Lake County.

The annual salary for public defenders is $150,077. Their job is to defend criminals who are accused of crimes and indigent and can not afford to hire an attorney. The 5th Circuit public defender currently runs an office that handles 20,000 cases a year in the five counties in the circuit — Lake, Marion, Sumter, Hernando and Citrus and has 60 attorneys on staff. The office has a budget of around $10 million dollars.

Out of the 20,000 cases per year most of them are revolving door repeat offenders who are simply sentenced to probation over and over. Most of the crimes are drugs or drug related and many of the cases counted are probation violations.

So why do they call the person who runs this office the Public Defender? What exactly is it this person does to defend the public? Absolutely nothing! When Ms. Patrick was kidnapped from the parking lot at the Publix near Lake Square Mall, taken to Polk County and murdered by a career criminal who had just ten years earlier kidnapped and raped a lady from the Walgreens at 441 and 473 why was he not in the prison for life for those charges? Why was he on the streets to kidnap and this time kill Ms. Patrick?

Why was career criminal James Griffin with a 90 page rap sheet on the streets to car jack people? He tried once to car jack a Leesburg elderly man and failed; but the next time he succeeded. Then in an effort to stop the criminal who should have been in prison for life a Leesburg Police vehicle is struck almost head on and a police office is injured for life by a man that was on the street thanks to Judge Richard Singletary even after his probation office had twice informed Judge Singletary that Griffin had failed his probationary drug screening. Singletary simply ordered “keep supervising him!”

So, where is the Public Defender? Why do they call this job the public defender when the reality is no one is defending the public! The public is at the mercy of the revolving door criminals that the system arrests, tries, convicts to probation and puts them back on the streets to steal and sell drugs or commit other crimes to raise the money to pay their probation fees.

It is no wonder that the honest people of Florida is acquiring right to carry permits at the fastest rate in history; they never know and especially here in lake County when they will be accosted by a repeat offender whose running short on money to pay the probation fee and looking for a quick buck to stay out of jail until they can be recycled again.

Why don’t they rename the Public defender job and call it Legal Aid to the Criminal Element of Society or something.

Lake County Courthouse mafia manipulating control of every damn thing they can get their fingers into.$10 Million Budget with a lot of perks! Old drunk friends with no life savings and no retirement bennies who has served the courthouse mafia well over they years. It it wasn't a crooked insider deal why in the hell didn't Skipper remind everyone he was going to run. Why in the hell did he wait until after the dealine in which no thanks to him Graves had picked up come competition by then.
You guys can't shit everyone in the 5th CIRCUS some of them are hockey proof. At least Graves will have to sober up a little and put out a few yard signs in his customers yards!
So when I offer proof that you are 100% wrong and can't accomplish a simple google search to verify your wild accusations your only recourse is a bunch of conspiracy nonsense and personal attacks? Life must be tough being that angry all the time.

Michael, No one is angry! Why is it people like you think folks have to be angry to tell the truth? Google don't know all the shit that's going on in Tavares. But the Tavares people do! Someone should have told you this politics ain't for sisses. But then again you and your Lake County buddies didn't figure you would really have to be running for office. After you went to Tallahassee and registered in April 2011 Skipper just sit back on his arse like he was going to run knowing not a lawyer in the 5th would be running against him. But the word got out that you had qualified and everyone with brains knew that meant Skipper was retiring and "giving" you the job. Speaking of google when I google your friend Borders all I see is Green Isle Boys Ranch stories. Based on your google theory this must mean every word about Borders is true. Maybe we should google and see whats in your refrigerator. lol

ANSWER: YES! Mike Graves of Tavares and Brad King run in the same circle of friends?

Bo Samargya is an outsider to what local folks call the Lake County Courthouse Mafia. He as plenty of experience in both prosecution and defense but it is not here in what folks call the 5th Judicial CIRCUS.

All of these local goons stick together like glue to protect their culture of corruption and so far they are doing quite well with a little well organized help!

Not mike, but thanks for that. It's pretty clear by your post that you don't like be told you're wrong so directly, but spouting off random non sequiturs isn't really an argument. It's a simple point. You said skip never said he was retiring until after the deadline. I provided you with a newspaper article from 2009 when he said he wasn't seeking reelection. You were wrong. You were lying. And now you're trying to deflect with random conspiracies. But you can go back to lakexposed or rightside of lake and spread whatever gibberish you want there. Just don't expect it to fly in the real world.

Thanks to people like you the truth flies everywhere today. The people are well educated to your little family and friends connections. What Skipper said in 2009 was forgotten in thirty minites. We all know back then Skipper even contemplated resigning and asking the governor to appoint Mike but changed his mind. So they decided the slight of hand playing it cool would bring their goal. Take God people were watching them.

If you'e not Mike you might as well be because you are obviously one of this friends. Maybe you are one of the hundreds of people he convinced to take a plea to a lesser offense of a felony conviction. A lot of them have signs in their yards but can't vote legally.

Graves Suspension by the Florida Bar

And the other time he was reprimanded but not suspended.

The facts are there. Lawyering and lying don't have to go hand.

All you idiots who "think" you'd never follow your attorney's advice and accept a plea, in order to make the best out of a bad situation, are the same type that from the comfort of your armchair, ridicule a person for walking away on tv with 'only'$600 grand and not going for the million dollars. Like you wouldn't chicken out too. Yeah, keep dreaming. When your lawyer answers your question truthfully for the 20th time-- that if the jury beleives your 'lying' neighbor that you swung an axe handle at his head, you could really get 15 years in prison, that 6 months in jail (or probation) would look pretty good to you too. Remind me to remind YOU not to have your mother, brother, son, wife or daughter enter a plea, Mr. Big Talk.

Actually Michael It's Ms. Big Talk and you tried not only to get my innocent son to take your manufactured plea but you also wanted to trade out your fee remember me?

Michael Graves is not synonimous with Justice. He is nothing but a lazy POS who always wants to work out a plea for innocent people.
