Where is the Kimmswick I knew as a child? Has anyone else ask this of themselves? What happened to the quant town we all considered our home, or home away from home. I'm aware that Kimmswick needs the shops in order for the city to stay alive, but how long must we all deal with the daily ignorant bliss that goes along with those shops? People come in from the outside, set up their shop, then attempt to run the town as their own. They lie, cheat, bully, and steal the heart of the town...and the hearts of the people who love the town, those who have lived there for many years, those families who branch off Kimmswick's founding residents. The merchants have alienated so many people, chasing them out of what is theirs. Bring back Kimmswick. Bring back the values that Theodore Kimm founded his city on. It's a shame that merely a restaurant owner, Blue Owl, can act as Mayor of the town. If that's not a true example of how our town is lost, I don't know what is.

I agree with you. Kimmswick has been lost since the early 1980's since a major food establishment as you mentioned above opened. Once that opened, the public invaded. Then more shops followed, more public invaded. It feels as though we no longer have a city. The shops and restaurants make the rules now - and 99% of them don't even LIVE in town. So long Kimmswick. It was nice knowing you.

Do you know how many times I've had to make visitors move their cars because they blocked me into my own driveway??? Not to mention the number of times a stranger walked into my front door thinking my house was a shop. One would think the shops would assist in trying to come up with some kind of solution to this problem. You're right. The shops, and visitors, are chasing out long time residents.

I drove into Kimmswick the other day and noticed almost every shop was closed, and every other building had a for sale sign in front. Looks like the shop owners finally ruined that town for good.

Yes 'Yme'...they ruined our town for good. Imagine what it would be like to live here. These shops came in to 'save' our town - ending up destroying it instead. Why? Because they wanted the buck too bad, and did everything to try to make it here. They've destroyed us.

I remember going to the apple butter festival as a kid. It was pretty fun. Now, it has turned into a flea market. My son purchased a switchblade at last years event. So now what...Kimmswick is dealing in arms?

They've also trashed it too.

Kimmswick is going down the tubes. The shop owners destroyed that town and the city government continues to let it happen. It's time for the residents to take their city back. I can no longer call it my city as it was ripped away from me by the selfish acts of the shop owners, and not to mention, the restaurant owner -- we all know who that is. So those of you who still reside in what once was a beautiful, welcoming town, don't you wish to have your way of life back? Don't you remember those days that our kids could ride their bikes in town, and play in town without the worry of a shop owner yelling at them for playing too close to their building? To those of you who regularily visit Kimmswick to do your craft shopping, you are supporting what is happening here.

The kimmswick visitor center doesn't have a food license, but it still sells food. How long is jefferson county going to allow kimmswick to break laws and ordinances - example, robert e lee being brought to kimmswick without permission. what makes kimmswick so special that it doesn't have to abide by the law?

that was funny about the Robert E Lee but your right. try to open a business in St. Louis and sell food without a food license. lets see how long it takes for the FDA to shut them down. anybody know who the mayor is?

yep sure is. mayor Reno is a great lady who can't do her job because of big money - owner of blue owl. i live in kimmswick and have lived here for over 40 years. now my town is being operated by a lady who owns a restaurant and bakes pies. pretty damn sad.

I too heard that the kimmswick visitor center is selling food without a license. you can get by with anything in that town. and everything I read here about the blue owl is also right. I know someone who worked there for 17 years and got fired. 17 years for what? to get fired over a rumor?

i recently visited at the kimmswick visitr center and couldn't believe it when i saw 3 roaches on the floor and i was only in the place for less than 5 minutes. buy food there? hell no. it's probably like that everywhere else in town too which is why i haven't ate at their restaurants in over 2 years.

Eh, nothing wrong with a few roaches. They just add to the flavor. But, you still need a license. I don't think any of those food establishments get inspected. And the blue owl, it's time for that owner to get off her high-horse.
