Unqualified burgermiesters holding nothing but a high school diploma should not be hired at $65K in a Directors position!. A better way to get a foot in the door would have been to become a cook/server with that high school diploma. I wonder if the Director used a few dolla of her $65,000 to frame and proudly hang her HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA on the wall for everyone to see? It gives the students of FOX C-6 something to admire and aspire to. "Gee I won 't have to go to college after all" is the new mantra being heard in the halls. McDonalds is kinda like college!

Everyone knows? I think not. The school district has many questionable practices, just need more members of the public to ask those questions. It's your tax money, they get the biggest chunk of personal and real estate taxes from your bill. Parents, these are your children that are being short changed while some family members of the board and administration celebrate six figure incomes because they are being supported by those of us making minimum wage. All the while the super and board are saying let them eat cake! They have lined the pockets of their family and friends and walked all over more qualified in district individuals in the process.

"Discriminated" according to YOU. You were not in the interview. I understand Nash was the best interviewed for what the distrist was looking: a person who could "manage" a food service. I wasn't there either but what if the others were just awful. I once was in Human Resources and hired many who were not the best "qualified" on paper. The interview makes a BIG difference. Otherwise just send in the resume and we don't even need to interview. That would save a lot of time but, not get you the very best person.
And you are wrong, this is EXACTLY like a private company with a budget and employees and health care etc. In fact it is time we start running our government entities more like business and not waste tax payer's money as if there were no bottom to the pockets.
You understand nothing! By your own admission you were not in the meeting either, so your understanding is guesswork! The interviews make such a remarkable difference that we can just dismiss qualifications? It is so absurd to think you actually defend that logic! What makes public and private hiring different is we can remove the chance that qualified people get railroaded by NEPOTISM! Private companies can do whatever they want, not so public ones. Government bodies do not have to produce their income, it iwill be there no matter what happens. So they can piss away 65,000 and it will still be okay. Unfair and unwise but they will survive because the income is a sure thing. Private companies not so much, a bone head hire like giving 65,000 to a high school grad over qualified people is why private companies fail, it directly changes their pocketbooks! A private company might have given her the chance at the job but would have started her out at a rate of pay more in line with her experience in the position she was hired for.

You and I will have to agree to disagree. We DO need to run our schools like a business. And, unlike private business, salaries are already set for each position in the public sector.

So true! The salaries are set, but do they not have the power to change on that, could'nt they have offered her $30,000 and then hired her? No wait, the salaries are set. Guess what Tom, so were the qualifications! In private business the owner/operater can hire his "educated through the 6th grade" son to be the executive vice president if they wish. But UNLIKE private business public ones have rules, laws, qualificatons, & ethical standards that are required to be followed so that son (or daughter in-law), does not get the job over qualified employees. Get it? If you mean that we should practice some of the economical standards of private business then that is a different debate. This debate is about nepotism, which is completely allowed in private, but should not be supported by anyone, to any measure in the public work force!

You know what bothers me most about this whole shameful episode? Todd and Dianne could have avoided this entire firestorm if they had just told Linda that her daughter-in-law could be given a good job that would give her a good salary while training her to eventually taking over the director's spot. If the Assistant Director had been promoted there would have been an opening for the Assistant's job, right? Why didn't they just slide Kelly into that slot? In a few years the new director would have been ready to retire and Dianne could have promoted a qualified relative. People would have complained but I don't think Elliot Davis would have been knocking down the door.

Hubris may bring all of them down.

Absolutely! Another question, why not offer the assistant two years to improve her "management skills"? They were so willing to allow Ms Nash two years to obtain all the other qualifications, seems like they could of at least done the same for someone who had dedicated years to the district. Heck, she would not even have needed to go back to college for that, just intern with the administration a couple hours a week! Administration has teaching degrees but I do not believe they have management degrees and yet they somehow have" management ability." Seems in the long run it would have been far less expense and headache to at least offer her the chance.
