Big Fat Hoosier

United States

I got one of those orange stickers on my broke down vehicle in my driveway from the kind and wonderful Arnold Police Department, 2 whole weeks to take care of the vehicle. Fine, no problem, I understand the need for this, people dont want to see their neighbors with junk cars siting in their driveways, understandable.

I am however quite disappointed that per the Arnold Police Department I am not allowed to put a vehicle cover on it in my own driveway. Im not talking about a big nasty orange tarp flapping in the wind, but a $70 fitted vehicle cover. I can even understand a limit on the number of covered vehicles like this but just one is a violation of the law???

I had planned in a few years to buy an old car and fix it up with my son here and there and just keep it covered when not working on it but their goes that idea.

It's all about money, if you dont fix it within 2 weeks they get to tow it, charge you for storage and if you dont pay up they can sell it. High sales taxes, a chunk of money out of my electric, gas, phone, and water bill each month and then the crooked "overages" for sewer charges on top of a storwater charge that apparently will last forever. I feel like Im dealing with Tony Soprano. Might be cheaper to live in Ladue or Clayton.

Buy a trailer, make sure it has a license on it and park the vehicle on top of it. There isn't a thing they can do about it.

That's complete BS, I thought you could have a tarped vehicle in your driveway. How can a cop legally come on to private property, lift up a tarp and check your plates?

Also, about the sales tax, I dont shop or eat in Arnold anymore unless it's $10 or less. I hate to take my money out of the local community but when there is a big gap between what taxes are between Arnold and St Louis County. I had a big order at Lowes last year for Home Improvements, switched the order from Arnold to the Fenton store and saved about $60 in taxes, that is a big difference!

I am going through the exact same thing. People should ban together to fight this ordinance from being misused, from being a form of harassment.

Move to st louis county. But in case your wondering they have the same law. Instead of complaining why not just obey the law and get your crap legal like every other American has too. It always amazes me how people want to bend laws, " well I would understand if I had a junkyard, but one or two cars" well I guess that theory should work with everything, I guess if u murder one person it's ok as long as ur not a serial killer. Know your city ordinances and comply with them and u wont have these problems. I live in St louis county and because they act on these violations, we don't have a Hoosier looking neighborhood. I miss the old days when people actually cared about their property and took pride in their property.

I do take great pride in regards to my property. It is one vehicle!!!! I have a four car driveway. Why does it really need plates to just sit in my driveway? It isn't on the streets breaking laws, it's on private property not bothering anyone. I'm not asking for a handout, I'm asking for this ordinance to be modified to protect both spectrums. The people who do not want to live next door to trash and those who have one vehicle in the driveway. I am not rich! Hello...... I live in Arnold!!! A family on one income doesn't have many options. Money is a key factor. What does it matter sitting in my driveway? It would still be sitting there if it was "legal" so what exactly does the city accomplish by it? Wasting the police departments time, creating a burden to some of us? Move?! Are you rich?! Cause I'm not!! You think I can just pack up and go? Get off your high horse and come down to reality!

This ordinance has absolutely nothing to do with with having a lack of pride for your property! Its about money and making sure that no matter what the county gets their tax money at any cost.It shouldn't matter if you have a car unregistered on your own property that's what makes it your property. your not driving it your not endangering anyone your parked there cause you don't want to break the law by driving it.people like you are what make this nation corrupt, and unjust.your why we have more and more of our freedoms taken away and for what. you don't get the fact that maybe just maybe some one does not have 700 bucks to just fork out to register there car that there not even using at that time. wow is all i can say.
