The third time wasn't a charm. It was a conquest. How long will they go beating up the competition at this level. Ferndale moved up in football so they could actually be challenged what about SB in baseball? Just wondering.

It wasn't even a fair fight. It's too bad the team did not petition to play up a division level. Perhaps they could have had the opportunity to play in Oakland for a championship.

So lets see sb is one of the five smallest schools in div VI. SB had a group that played as a TEAM in all sports. Next year is going to be all new. I think teams should play schools there size.So be happy for a local team that did GREAT.

Agreed. Congrats to Dale Del Grande and the special group of athletes he's had these last few years at St B's.

be happy and Eric Nelson, school size has nothing to do with the team's composition when you are a parochial school. St. Bernard prep is basically an all-star team. Look at all of the division brackets at the NCS site. Divisions III, IV, and V are dominated by parochial schools, both Protestant (christian) and Catholic. They are basically all-star teams.

All star teams! Sbs team would had 3 players from that team make ehs. Ahs has players from eureka does that make Ahs allstars? Get real! When players play as a team it makes them all look good.Only 3 or 4 players at sb were allstars at redwood empire.

not quite in SB's case; if they were an all-star team they would have stripped the best players from all area teams leaving them in a poor state. After looking at Arcata and Eureka baseball, that's not the case. I'm not saying they don't attract good players, just not all of them.

School vouchers and choice would even things, but that's another topic and the teacher's unions would never allow the politicians to implement anything that would be a detriment to their govt schools.

congratulations SB softball and baseball!

JDA, a public school's ability to attract higher quality athletes through inter-district transfers is virtually impossible under CIF rules. Consider this, those players at Eureka and Arcata are either not Catholic or cannot afford the tuition to attend a private prep school. Additionally, St. Bernard prep is not impinged by a district boundary. I recall in my high school days one student at St. Bernard prep commuted from Willow Creek every day. I remember quite well there were starting basketball players on St. Bernard who hailed from as far south as Rio Dell.

Those are the facts. St. Bernard is able to draw student athletes from a geographic region greater than any single public institution. That's the equivalence of an all-star team.

I still stand by the pov that St. Bernard should have played up to the Division level that would have allowed them to go a lot deeper in championship play. Unfortunately we will never get to see just how good this year's team really was.

Those kids have parents who are/were teachers/counselors in Arcata. It was a convenience factor when they were growing up.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy for them and it gives the HDN a good name. Regardless of their size, just wondering how it feels to whoop all the opponents and not even get challenged in the Championship game. Could they have won at the D5 level? Wouldn't that be a better accomplishment knowing they beat schools that were bigger? None of this is meant to belittle their current championship. Congrats SB!

What does being deaf have to do with anything? Doesn't change how hard you can hit a ball!
