I'm a chef here in Kentucky and I was looking to relocate somewhere else. Should I move to Humboldt County? Weigh out the pros and cons please. Thank you

CONS: County is basically broke as is the state. Low pay for many jobs and right now very few jobs available. Even when times are good the pay scale is on the low side. Lots of rain and fog and cool temperatures. It's August and we're in the high 50 degrees. Nearest large city is about 150 miles away, San Francisco is just under 300 as is Sacramento. We pay outrageous price for gas, around $3.30 or so per gallon. Poor alternative transportation. Lots of drugs. Meth and pot being the easiest to get, we are known as a weed capital. Lot of overweight and ugly women around, but their is a community college and a state university
which has many young women to choose from.

PRO: Though many will dispute this the COL is reasonable except for gas. Property here is generally cheaper than most other areas other than those more isolated and/or broker than Humboldt. Lot of good medical (again many will dispute), great weather if you do not like heat which is available only 50 miles east up in the local Mts. When 55 degrees along the coast it can be over 90 or higher above. Lots of drugs if that's your thing, great outdoor area with large beaches almost empty (due to cold winds and colder water) but great for dogs.

There's a lot more on both pro and con but for work it is down. Check out Humboldt web site and the local towns for more info.

We have a small population with the majority in Eureka the rest in 5 other towns. Lot of rural area.

Most people who live here like it because it is a small population and no sweltering summers or freezing winters.

As a chef get the yellow pages on line or the various web sites for the area and write asking about work if you want to come here.

Good luck!

"Fun Time" Thank you! I also have been searching the web for useful information like this, trying to plan my move to CA and you are the first to actually help out.....every forum I find people just debate.

"We have a small population with the majority in Eureka the rest in 5 other towns. Lot of rural area."

-What are the 5 other town areas?

Could you possibly offer some pros and cons in your opinion of living in towns near the coast vs. mtn towns?

Thanks!

No wonder graduates are worthless coming from HSU (Horribly Stupid University.) Put your application directly in the trash.

I'd went up to Arcata on a weekend, I saw how all the bums and meth heads, harassing and threatening the normal people. I won't be applying for HSU Grad.
