Coffee on the go

Full story: Eureka Times Standard

A ubiquitous Northwest mainstay, the drive-through espresso stand, has been photographically documented by Ray Weisgerber in his new book, "Driven to Espresso: Drive-through coffee stands in the Northwest." Humboldt County is represented in the book, too.

I get Gold Rush coffee beans for Christmas if I'm lucky. The original drive up coffee stand is on the North side of Eureka but never got a drive through permit as I remember. It was painted black and white like a cow.

jitter bean is over priced, with snobby service and poor tasting low quality drinks. Support old town, mosgos, gold rush, espresso 101. Heck even starbucks is better. To see jitter bean featured is a disgrace to humco.

What you're talking about was originally called The Udder Place Coffee Co (hence the cow print on the bldg) and they were my favorite coffee stand for years. That was a definite eye catcher coming in from Arcata. Wow it's been so long I can't even remember what my favorite drink was called.

The cow colored place was the Udder Place.
The first Gold Rush was the one at the BS Mall. Then the one at Broadway and Henderson. The first Jitter Bean was the one in front of Longs Drug store.

Drive thrus are the bain of great coffee. Served in paper cups to people in running cars they represent the worst of consumer society. No better or noteable than McDonalds or Wendys.

Coffee has been a social beverage in Ethiopia for hundreds of years and the ritual of preparation and convivial consumption is part of the history. Drive thrus destroy everything social about coffee and turn it into just another high calorie junk food.

Leave it to lazy Americans in their SUV's to lumber up to a shack and order a milk bomb laced with corn syrup flavoring, whipped cream. 1/16th of the drink is coffee. These places should be called milk drive thrus because coffee is such a minimal part of their menus.

Most coffee places (gold rush included) have areas to park and go in. Which is what I do. Also, unless you truly are into drinking blood and pus from another animal, order soy or rice. Just because you have truly arrogant opinion of the deliciousness of coffee, that doesnt make it a bad thing. I am pretty sure that when I order my soy or rice beverage, there is coffee in it. Maybe YOU should stop criticizing people and get your own life. I drink coffee, and I am not a lazy american, I am a mom, a hard worker, and effin patriotic.
