Arcata Voter, the "Law" on ADA is so sloppy it is almost impossible to follow and not be subject of one of these abusive lawsuits.

If you can't get into a particular restaurant bathroom and you know it, then GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
Hopefully this kind of crap will get the ADA changed. I think most people thought that was for publicly owned buildings, not private businesses, I know I did. Putting a long established business out of business serves what purpose? The disabled person STILL can't use the bathroom there. Spiteful, ignorant CRAP! |

What this city needs is more businesses, not less. This was the last Artic Circle in the State of California, what a shame.

Seems to me that people know of or have been contacted by this scum to help him fatten his wallet - talk to those people and have them come forward to the courts and shut singleton down - plain and simple!

A WEB SITE ON ADA ABUSE THAT LISTS SINGLETON AS A PRIME OFFENDER!!!!!!!!!!
here is the real deal: http://www.adaabuse.com/singleton.html READ FOR YOURSELF HOW THIS SCUM WORKS!!!!!!!!!! |

It seems Mr. Collins is a favorite of Mr. Singleton. This is absolutely appalling! How much has Singleton and Collins made from these legal extortions?
Yes. For those that don't know the history, this is the way Singleton works. The Times- Standard covered him a few years ago. He goes around and finds things he thinks aren't in compliance with the ADA, then sues the businesses and hopes for a settlement. No warnings or requests to take care of the supposed problem, just a lawsuit. The guy needs to be run out of town on a rail! |

Where would one go to get copies of the case filed against the Artic Circle owners?
It would be on PACER and filed in San Francisco in Federal Court. That is Singleton's MO. He will allege that the slope is wrong in the parking lot or the counters a an inch too high. Pissy things that a small business may not be able to correct and may not be able to afford his payoff.
He did the same thing with Toni's in Arcata about two years ago. |

You could always count on the circle to loosen your bowels, sometimes for hours at a time. Good riddance.
Just a straw man for the owner to blame anyway, rather than his own incompetence in running a business in this century. |
The county courthouse, if the lawsuits fall under the public documents catagory. |
If his lawsuits have no merit, a judge would toss them. Obviously they do since the owners pay up.
If you don't like it, change the law. I personally hope Singleton expands his suit to more kinds of civil rights violations, such as fairness in hiring. If it drives some neanderthals out of business. GOOD RIDDANCE. |
How would you feel if your boss was the target of this man and you came to work one day to find the front boarded up?(you do have a job, ya?) It's not about the food, it's about the unnecessary loss of yet another locally owned business. |

THAT LAWYER IS A CREEP. HE SEARCHES FOR BUSINESSES THAT CANT AFFORD RENOVATIONS AND SUES THEM.

I didn't care for their meat dishes, but their milk shakes were creative, unique, a real joy. Now I will never again be able to have a banana walnut shake? With real bananas and real walnuts? I'd better not say what I'd like to do to Mr. Singleton.

Good riddance. Crappy food from the 1960's.

This sounds like lawsuit abuse to me. As a liberal I support strong laws protecting people from discrimination of all kinds. I also support laws that protect people from corporate AND small business harm, such as employment and torte law.
Right now there is a movement by the political right to take away our rights to fair and just compensation. An example being the recent caps on medical malpractice. This, however, seems as though it would give ammunition to those who want to strip rights away from the people to seek fairness through our legal system. I see this as a net harm to the fight for equality and justice. Plus I liked thier 99c bbq bacon cheese burgers :) |
