I am so sorry to hear of Marys passing, she was a dear friend to my Uncle Charlie Hellard for so many years. We enjoyed her presence at all of his birthday parties in Fortuna.. Our deepest sympathy to Marys family, she was a special lady.

Terceira is one of the most beautiful places I have been. My great grandmother was Maria Martin of ferndale.She told me story's of the hard life back then on the islands, "Nothing But Rock" When I went back I visited a great uncle from Grandpa Martin side of the family (Nunes) and was told story's of the life back then. It was sad to find out as well as pointed out That in fact I was not Portuguese or as we say (Azorian) but families who left the island basically jumped ship.Never the less I will hold this of all my journeys of the promise I kept to my Great grandmother,To go home again.. God rest you Mary..

Are you the Jeanne Taylor who has done oodles of transcribing Humboldt and Sonoma County genealogy info..if so, are you still willing to do look-ups?
