I was driving home Tuesday night and had an engine knock. I pulled over on the shoulder of the bridge where the service road of 161 goes over Hwy 114. I was well off the roadway, not impeding traffic in any way. I called my wife, and found a towing service that could come pick up my SUV. Here are the times that everything happened, times coming from call I made and received from my cell phone, and my receipt from the City of Irving.

6:10 Called my wife (in Arlington) that I had broke down and I was calling tow services
7:22 Wife came to pick me up – talked to tow service who had just finished a drop off and was on the way
8:13 Tow truck driver made the first pass where my SUV was supposed to be and it had already been towed by Irving PD.

So in 51 minutes my SUV was towed and impounded.

Went to the impound facility in Irving – here’s their timeline

According to the dispatcher at IPD, they received a call from “someone” that my SUV was a traffic hazard.

7:49 Tow company called
8:10 SUV towed
8:37 SUV received at impound
8:56 I picked up SUV

I find it hard to believe that between 7:22 and 7:49 they received a call, investigated an SUV on the side of the road, and called a tow service.(If so, that’s great response time!) Especially when I sat in the SUV from 6:10 and 7:22 and no one stopped to help, or a call made at that point.

Basically, giving the tow company 10 minutes to load the vehicle, my SUV was there for less than 40 minutes. Should they not give “reasonable time” to move a vehicle? By the way -$128 for the tow and 19 minutes of impound. That is horrible!

I could tell you worse things about the IPD. They are corrupt, lazy, stupid, and it goes on. They are motivated by revenue, and revenue alone. When it comes to catching criminals, they back them so they don't have to deal with them.

Your vehicle broke down on the 161 bridge over 114, the very same one WITHOUT adequate room for a broke down vehicle to be safely off the road, that construction has been going on and you cant fathom why anyone would want to get it out of way? I dont have enough fingers and toes to count just how many times vehicles broke down or involved in accidents have blocked that very same spot, I say thanks IPD for getting a vehicle out of the way because given the amount of traffic we have here in the area, especially at that time of evening, the last thing anyone needs is a broke down vehicle blocking traffic. It aways stinks when your vehicle breaks down but come on, you must not be familiar with the Las Colinas/Valley Ranch bumper to bumper traffic. You could always have stayed there and waiting with your vehicle for the tow truck and it probally would'nt have been towed, how did they know how long it had been there?

What did they tell you when you called the Police and told them you were broken down and needed help? Did they tell you to just leave it and walk away? Did they rip up the note you left on the windshield giving your phone number so that they could call you and ask why your car was sitting abandoned?

Wait. You broke down at 6:10. You called your wife (not the cops). It took her 1 hour and 20 minutes to get there. 27 minutes later you called the tow company (from McDonald's maybe?). From the time you called them, it took them 24 minutes to drive to where you car was? So.... if you had called the tow company first, and didn't wake up your wife, you could have been out of the way by 6:34ish? And the police would never have known you were there? That $128 for 19 minutes of babysitting your car? That's for stupid.

seems like a quick call to the PD advising them of your car trouble would have avoided all of this.

Try McKinney PD if you look at them wrong you get your ass beat. East McKinney is rough and they dont play over there. I will never visit my cousin again. Its run down just like Irving. Matter of fact I live in Garland and its worse in McKinney. Dont visit that city at least not the east side!

Yea I went to McKinney once and thats the last time I will go there. Cops everywhere. Look like a bunch of young militant mother F---. My friend lives on wilcox and says he had his ass beat many of times by the MPD. Actually he has stopped running from the cops in general.

I lived in mckinney for several years and they have a top notch police department. They hire young and thats great for the city. East mckinney is a shit hole. Look at the size of the city though. 130 square miles at build out and 600 officers. land miles is a big as arlington

We moved out of mckinney due to the size. We were shocked how big McKinney is going to be the research I did was 130 sq. miles big with a population of 400,000 residents. Thats twice the size of Irving and plano. Wow get out while you can. Frisco is going to be the same way, but not as large.

I had an unfortunant run in with the IPD this past weekend. A cop pulled me over for speeding. He made it a point to tel me that his policy for speeders was that he would let them go if they were traveling 14 miles or under OVER the posted speed limit. I was going 15 so he wrote me a ticket. I was very polite to the officer even though he was being brash with me. I had no issue with the ticket. My wife and I were late for an community awards service banquet so i just wanted my ticket so i could make up some time. He came back and tells me to sign the ticket, then proceeds to keep chastising me like a child. I never said a word. I took the tickets, let up my window. He stood there for a few seconds then I pulled off to the next exit. He quickly followed and stopped me a second time using his PA system to make me pull over. He comes to the car yelling at me saying that he's not some rookie. He's a 20 year vet and that I didn't show him proper respect. He also said that if I would have run over his foot that my night would not end well. My response was "what is your point"! "Did I run over your foot?, NO I did not. Look at your dash cam and you'll see that it wasn't even close. You cannot pull someone over for something they COULD have done!" He then gets more upset and starts yelling. I then explained to him that I was speeding, he gave me a ticket and that's the end of it. I'll pay the ticket and that's it. I further went on to tell him that if you're are trying to push my buttons to give you legal rights to take me in then you are sadly mistaken. You have crossed the line and are simply harrassing me. Suddenly the officer backs up and says, "I'm going to leave now because this is going to escalate". I told him that it will only escalate if you escalate it. He quickly saw that he could not push my buttons and and kept repeating that this could escalate as he walked back to his vehicle. No tickets, nothing. Needless to say I will file a formal complaint. Sadly I don't think IPD is full of corrupt cops, but one bad apple can surely give them a bad name. This officer is clearly power hungry and he needs to be reprimanded so that no other citizens have to go through this type of harassment.

I can't stand IPD at all. They harass u for no reasons. They pull u over lying about your insurance being out. Stupid police just like bothering others.
