Development, telling it like it is

The decision of the town trustees to reject the sale of Lot 4 for the development of the Anschutz Wellness Center at the Stanley will have people in other towns in Colorado scratching their heads wondering "what is wrong with those people in Estes Park"? Well, somebody's got to tell it like it is, so, here's what's wrong with Estes Park. Full Story

If the Wellness center was viable, then it would of survived the "no" vote much like EPIC did. Why not a vote in the spring ? when we all have more time...
I believe the comments of the locals being "backwards" is a product of a flawed judging faculty distorted by desire. I believe Public Forum was satisfied and The Trustees showed prudence in turning it aside. If given proper time and input, I probably would have voted yes on it. But, John Cullen didn't even have the time or deference to show up to the board meetings. Instead sending a paid mouthpiece. And I sensed a condescending tone from all the pro involved.
I was in little mood to satisfy a rich mans fever for unmitigated gain. We've all been slick willied and fancy danned before, and by the time the sales charisma wears off we are stuck with a valley eyesore.

Those of you who support the wellness center so much, go ahead and pony up another 2 mill or so to buy lot 4. That is why it got voted down, because wealthy as hell Cullen short changed the town on how much he wanted to spend. Money talks, and your brand of self-centered bs walks. To Aspen, I hope.

We all have our thoughts about the Wellness Center. To those of you who support it, what if it fails? The Anshultz Center in Aurora is loosing money, as an example. To all you goody do gooders who want change, whoopity do for you. How about those of us who like EP just the way it is? And don't use money as your crutch. Estes Park draws over three million visitors a year and the town sure as hell aint broke. National Geographic just made public a survey of the 20 most popular destinations in the world, and Rocky Mountain National Park was one of them, being the only one in this country. There are those of us who are happy with EP just the way it is. There's two sides to every story.

To Sherry and Elizabeth; If you are so unhappy with Estes Park, why are you here? Find a town that suits your needs and move there. Why do you people always have to change things to satisfy you ego's?
This applies to you also Joe.

I wonder how many of the long winded blow hards above actually took their valuable time to read some of the Anschutz Project documents uploaded on the Town website just four days before the Trustee vote? How many know that the project was 25% more densely packed due to an ordinance that allows such density when employee housing is included in the plan. The housing included was not for employees but for those giving services and staying only one week? Not in the ordinance spirit of employee housing. How many "experts" knew that only the lodging in the Center would produce taxable income for Estes, while all of the client services would be tax free under the non-profit nature of the business? Why the big rush to pass this. Don't the residents of Estes deserve to know the truth about a project before we sell our land to accommodate it?

That's right Sherry. We have our little piece of paradise and would love to share it with you, except that you want to tear it apart, so forgive us for that, and please respect our little piece of paradise and go find your's somewhere else. You seem to want all the big city amenities so you should be very welcome in say, Chicago, Los Angeles, you get the picture. Happy Trails!

- "love it or leave it" is so Archie Bunker 1970's jingoism. You are correct that the fast track methods seemed like a scam. And, yes, there have always been those who move here and want to immediately change it. But whatever validity your arguments had are lost when you sink to sophomoric junior high level tripe......

Please explain "sophomoric junior high level tripe" so we can all be convinced you know what you are talking about. Regardless of the accusations you make, the truth will stand as the truth and the validity will survive your horrendous self righteous hyperbole.

"Love it or leave it" = sophomoric junior high level tripe

Stick to your initial arguments, which were basically correct, and stop insulting people who you disagree with.

insult people you agree with, or allow those people who disagree with you to insult you.

If you go into an Italian restaurant and then berate the owner for not serving more Thai food, who is the moron?

Similarly, if you move to Estes Park and then berate the town board for not allowing some cockamamie plan from an ADHD-laden spoiled brat rich kid to construct a subway system, who doesn't even bother showing up at town board meetings, but issues edicts from afar through mouthpieces, you should be placed on a high pedestal, and not attacked for being well beyond Alzheimers into the need to be four-point restrainted.

What a bunch of crap. Your ilk would have asked us to placate Mao and Stalin.
