EPIC downtown revamps proposal, hopes to present to town board again

Stan Black, EPIC trustee, told the town board at a special meeting considering another tourism-driving capital project - the multipurpose events center - that he still believes in the downtown theatre EPIC project, its mission, the town board of trustees, the people of Estes Park and the supporters of EPIC in the audience and throughout the town ... I would ask Mr. Black---If I were to take a survey of town residents and came up with 400 people who said they are against The Performing Arts would you take that as a hint and go away? My point is that 300 supporters certainly aren't a majority representation of the town. If you would put this up for public vote and accepted the will of the people I am sure you would get respect, no matter which way the vote goes. I am not against EPIC but I would like to see it in a different location. As for the Seeleys, all they want is a tax writeoff. You keep crying because you have been handed defeat at every turn. Strike three if I'm not mistaken. Instead of crying and whining, try a different approach, such as public vote, and see what happens. And if you go thru with the recall, which is childish, please don't use my tax money to help fund it. Pay the estimated $12'000 out of your own pocket. This could possibly help sway people to your side. Voting is a powerfull tool. Use it wisely. Also on the full page add in today's EP News, Greg Steiner is listed as not supporting the recall effort. Excuse me? He is listed as one of the supporters filing the petition for recall.

******HOLY COW******
There's an old idiom in theatre, "Break a leg". Meaning, "Good luck". However, EPIC's continued drum beat deserves another old idiom "Break two legs". Meaning, "Fetchez la vache!" .

Adding even "76 Trombones" won't sell a bad location idea. Turn out the lights, drop the curtain before it comes to the theatre 'hook' or 'dropping the cow' on the downtown swansong......

Stan Black the one who announced, in defeat, that he had no confidence in the town board and he was fed up and thru with the whole program? And if you believe that the reason the trustees turned you down was the parking situation, guess again. A lot of people just don't want it. Location is a part of the equation also. Why don't you try combining it with the MPEC? Away from the heart of town, oodles of parking right there. Or how about a public vote, which has been suggested before, but seems to fall on deaf ears for some reason.

May I suggest to Stan Black and all the Performing Arts supporters that you read Julie Harvey's column titled: "Estes Park, There Must Be A Better Way", say citizens. This puts it in a nutshell!

This guy Stan Black is one of our most upstanding citizens ever. He is giving us a prize, a gift, and we are telling him we are too dumb to accept it. Recall the bums and put Stan Black and his family in there as trustees for life, and don't forget who went to bat for you, Stain Black.

Thanks for you attention.

If Stan Blacks believs so strongly in The Rocky, I suggest he look at 300 supporters as being approximately what percent of the population of EP? Assuming EP has 6,000 residents, thats 5% I believe. Considering a plus or minus 4% error, you're stillunder the table. Do me and a whole lot of other people in EP a favor and don't tell us what's good for us. Put your Rocky to a vote and find out what the populous wants. One thing that ai would like to know is what are you getting out of it? Just thought people would like to know. You're so vehemont about it why are you afraid to find out the truth of what we, the taxpayers of this fine town want?

And what is so outstanding about Stan Black? Nobody gives something for nothing! If you think the town should just sit back and approve this just because in your words Stan is one of our most upstanding citizens ever then you are the one that is insane! Are you going to pay for this mess when it fails? Wake up!

Having owned property and paid taxes in Estes for over 15 years, my wife and I were stunned the EPIC project was turned down by City leaders on the bases of the reasons reported. We remain hopeful and support all efforts to move EPIC forward given the generous donation of land in such a focal point location. Perhaps, though, the "Nos" prefer a more novel use of the site, say a tee-shirt shop or candy store....better yet, why not just pave it over and stripe it for parking. That ought to pass City approval. Happy to see the initiative still has life. Count us Voting for Estes/Yes for EPIC.

before you speak. If you read Mayor Pinkhams comment in the Trail Gazette you will find that parking was not the only consideration for refusal. That was the only subject discussed by EPIC at that meeting. Do you suppose that the people just don't want it? Whats wrong with rebuilding the original arcade, or even yet a skating rink? By golly a parking lot is a great idea---Problem solved. Thanks for the thought. All you do gooders complain there's nothing to do for your darling kids. Try doing something for them! My wife and I have been here for many years also and we like EP just the way it is, so you can count on us to vote NO to EPIC as well as many of our friends, and believe me we have many! Put that in your pipe and smoke it! And by the way, why don't you pay for the ridiculous recall petition then my wife and I won't have to with our hard earned tax money, then we can go to town and have an ice cream cone.

Umm, because the original arcade was pathetic white trash schlock? Even the one or two decent shops there had to 'exist' in that substandard, decrepit structure. But it did supply an adequate income for the slumlord owner, until it burned down.

This year's ice skating rink experiment is yet another pathetic attempt to pretend that Estes is a winter wonderland. Onward to the 1950's!! Or, perhaps you're 'think'ing of a roller skating rink? Yeah! We can have roller derbys pitting teams of aging realtors vs out-of-touch business owners, and we can have the newcomers club and seasonal resident associations competing to sell the most cotton candy on the side!

We at Fort Mill love Estes Park the way it is, we go to Branson for our culture. We go to the national park for beauty and the great outdoors, not to see some crapass country-western singers.

Before you start commenting to web site remarks on such a singularly personal basis, referring to "your darling kids", who in our case, were adults long ago and stating "put that in your pipe and smoke it", I would suggest YOU take a step back from such comments. If you want to generalize a thought/opinion on a pro/con position and make it a spirited debate, great....but don't make it personal...

Talk about making it personal. You seem to think that people who oppose you are somehow "against" Estes Park, or the progress of Estes Park.

What poppycock. We are more "for" Estes Park than you will ever be. You are "for" changing Estes Park into wherever you came from. You will move on or die around the time your precious Preforming Arts Counter collapses, leaving long time residents to foot the bill for tearing it down and starting over.

The fact that you still subscribe to a web service in Texas tells everyone exactly what you are "for" as far as financially support. Put your money where your mouth is, honey.
