So, now we're supposed to believe that the Tea Party members are just a bunch of normal but misunderstood citizens. Nothing could be further from the truth. Just watch and listen to the words of their newest hero Ted Cruz to see what motivates them. They do not believe in democracy as any time there is a democrat in the White House, they try to close down government. Particularly when a black man is in the white house. They are anarchists, bigots, and racists by their own actions and words. They also don't believe in the facts or science; hence, global warming is a hoax. Tell that to the thousands of people across the West who have lost their homes in wildfires during the warmest period in modern history. Tea party members are takers who only want govt benefits for themselves. "Don't mess with my SS or medicare, but deny health care to anyone else. Misunderstood? No Tea Party members, we know exactly what you are!

On top of the financial losses to the businesses, what was the REAL dollar amount for the town to pay for the extra police coverage, town employees getting overtime pay to put up barricades, cone zones, trash, closing off bond park and the cleanup afterwards?
add those numbers all together and see what this really cost the town as a whole, even Safeway employees said the race day was like walking into Safeway in the middle of winter, no one in the store!

RE:'Pro Challenge was an economic disaster' by Jon Nelson
The 2012 race had an estimated $100 million economic impact to Colorado. Estimates from other destinations that have hosted the USA Pro Challenge value the media impact anywhere from $2 to $4 million, which is valuable publicity for Northern Colorado as it recovers from the impacts of wildfires in 2012...
The numbers are not in yet Jon but we all doubt your admittedly 'unscientific' opinion will hold water once they are...
From our perspective the race was an unmitigated success & we look forward to having it back again in 2014 & 2015

have been a boon to the state as a whole, and as stated, let's wait and see that final tally, however, the race day in Estes was NOT a boon to the town, it was a day of major losses for many small businesses, and, not so small businesses.
In a tourism driven town like Estes, we have about a 4 month "big business" season, then it drops off, when a hit like that is taken right at the end of the season, it hurts in a big way, and may not be offset until next season, making surviving the winter here all the more difficult, and that's the real issue here, not the "big picture" of how it benefited the whole state, but the impact on small business owners and the employees who for some reason want to work and be paid year round.
As also pointed out, not just the impact on the aforementioned, but the out of pocket expense put out by the town, which the state as a whole will not compensate the town of Estes or it's business owners for either.

the sand disaster. Cheerleader Charlie is out cerculating surveys to see how much people like him. When it gets to me, if it gets to me, I will run out of pencil lead Xing the not at all box. We need people with clear heads and clear hearts, not cheerleaders who would get on board a reunion of Nazi sympathizers and racist skinheads if their favorite town board member tells them to pump the hell out of it.

Mr Cope. It's like Yogi Berra said about his favorite restaurant in St. Louis: "Nobody goes there anymore. Its too crowded."
Seems like we convinced the Yogis to stay home that day.

Hit the nail on the head. Kind of like the extremists in the south who claim that their organizations aren't as much anti-black as they are pro-white. The proof is there as to what they are all about. The posters with the president depicted as the villain from Batman, Adolf Hitler and a primitive man with a bone through his nose!

Survey most of the crowds at Tea Party rallies and they skew heavily to the over 60 crowd. Carrying signs and shouting about fiscal responsibility while they insist that no one lay a glove on their Social Security and Medicare. Hypocrites!

Meanwhile, they continue to believe that THEIR interpretation of the Constitution is correct. Real good Christians! You would deny the needy some help while you line the pockets of Dick Armey and the Koch brothers who are just using you to accomplish their goals. Go back and re-read early American History. Their is more to it than Glenn Becks spin or the ladies in Estes Park dressed in their Disneyland version of the revolution powdered wigs and tri-corner hats.

People might have some more respect for your group if you would just come clean and state that you want to live in 1913 or 1813 instead of the present. Rafael Cruz, his real name by the way, and his cohorts speak in code and use what are known as dog whistle words. That way they get away with a shout out to their followers while sounding vague as to what they speak about.

Where were all of these screams and hollers for fiscal responsibility when Ronald Reagan was running up huge deficits and George W. Bush spent every last bit of surplus he inherited? Not to mention 2 wars put on the "credit card" and off the books of the federal budget.

If it walks, quacks and looks like a duck, right?
