I couldn't agree more. Traffic is already such an issue. Being one of 20 cars stuck behind one of those poor plodding horses takes forever. That can't be good for the horses to walk on hot pavement all day.

I hate them on the road...so stupid to have on main road, but the people running these don't give a shizzle about ALL the traffic backups their causing. Animal cruetly, especially when its very hot out. Just another way to pilage money away from the year-round businesses downtown.

And I think its just jealousy. If you lived in New York, traffic would be backed up all the time. Why don't you whiners move to someplace in Wyoming where there is no traffic and you can drive 400 mph to get your groceries. You are old and you are retired, what the hell do you care if you have to wait another minute at a stop light to let people enjoy the traditional, environmentally-uplifting form of transportation. You complainers are probably the same people who say we should love the bears.

Horses are'nt the problem.
The problem is that our idiot govt does not promote the parking lots that they have already built. If they did, Elkhorn wouldn't be a parking lot every day in the summer. Every resident should take a ride on Saturday and Sunday to the large lot at the Fairgrounds. It is mostly empty and the shuttle busses stop to pick up one or two people. Why do our local officials refuse to put up signs directing tourists to this lot?? They are still hanging on to the old ways of being lap dogs to the crappy stores on Elkhorn. Therefore, tourists don't use the remote lots and never will. The asses that we need to get rid of are not pulling the horse wagons.

I am a native of Fort Collins and there is nothing better than watching or riding on a horse and carriage in our Old Town area! We recently drove to Estes just for a carriage ride because we frequent this same carriage company in Fort Collins. We always take out of town guests and relatives to enjoy this step back in time relaxing, self paced ride. I believe that it is poor judgement to lash out at the carriages for slowing the pace of traffic. We weren't even behind a carriage and the traffic was at a stand still. Get real this is a tourist town and locals need to realize without patrons like myself and others their town would just be another run down area. I spent several hundred dollars shopping and eating this last weekend, but won't be back if this is how you treat family owned business. The Mayor needs to apologize to this business and beg them to stay in your town! The paper needs to also interview the business before they print such horrific stories about things they don't know.

Are you kidding me? The horse carriages rock! We too frequent Fort Collins for a carriage ride and the owners and their staff are nothing but nice and always are accomidating. Their horses are so well taken care of. I myself am a "horse person" Those horses are well groomed, shoes are always set in proper placement and these horses are always given access to water and grain every hour.(I know this because I've sat and watched!) Really, Gazette...people cheering and taking pictures of these carriages at every intersection is a bad thing? I had a patient that came to the ER because of a twisted ankle and they came here from Denver to ride because they had a "Groupon" from this carriage company and they said they wouldn't have come up here but it was such a great deal that they thought the drive was worth it. They're bringing their money to this town. Come on "locals" if you don't like it move go to AZ for the summer and let the tourist make our town thrive. Do the carriage drivers complain about the cars diving infront of them that are "looking" into stores and slowing traffic? Didn't think so. Carriages good for you to bring such a great thing to our town. Please stay!!

Another way to pilage money? Is this not a business that got a permit and paid the town to operate? I do believe they did! They bring money to the year-round businesses. I see that on living social they teamed up with Sweet Peaks Cupcakery for a deal.....wow that's not a year-round business? Get your facts straight before trying to tear down a good group of people trying to make a living and contribute to the beauty of Estes. Isn't Estes Park considered the "horse capital" of the United States? Wow, and these are the same people that brought several businesses through the Roof Top Rodeo each night in their wagon....if these are bad people, we need more of them in this world!

landfills with all the horse poop these horses churn out. Can't they take a carriage ride around Lake Estes, and then feed the poop to the fish, who would then poop it out and raise the level of the lake so that it would top the dam and flood the bear lovers in the valley?

we have done away with autos, and use horse and buggy exclusively. The air polution has gone way down, although we have to power the internet by putting our nags on hampster wheels.
