for the older families either, or single people, or much of anyone for that matter, below average wages, and way overpriced real estate, and landlords that just want to collect high rents and not repair anything.
What a dream place to live.

No names, no interviews with families that have left in this epidemic of fleeing. Biased much?

Who cares that they leave. Not me until I am forced to leave! That is the attitude of the town.
The last residents will be the precious elk that we would rather have than jobs.

are the folks who can afford to live here (retirees, doctors, and the Mexicans who get everything for free). It's not that hard to figure out folks. You can live in Estes for free, for breaking the law and get awarded with free medical, dental and medicine, free public education, free and reduced lunches, breakfasts, and summer supplemental food, food stamps and 10 people in a house that drive an Escalade. Or you have the retirees that have worked legally in this country prospered and saved all of their lives to live in "paradise". So who gets cut out?
The legal hard working soul who makes just to much for freebies and not enough to live comfortably (eg. teachers). This issue continues to go round and round but until EP gets itself together and clamps down on the businesses that hire illegals for cheap labor nothing will change. They suck us dry.

You don't like the elk you can always move. The wildlife are a big part of our economy. People come to EP to view the wildlife and the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. Where I come from you take responsibility of taking care of yourself and not expecting the public sector to adjust to your selfish needs, and that means, in plain English, live where you can afford to. I worked 20 miles from where I lived for 30+ years and was able to save for my retirement and follow my dream to Estes Park. Yes, I'm a retiree and dam proud of it. I like EP just the way it is.

You don't give a rats behind about anyone else, things have changed since you were of working age, and your attitude shows with your "I've got mine so screw everyone else" attitude, and why it's you old retired farts that fight any and all change that might make life more financially rewarding in this town.
Selfish, uncaring, old bastard.

I tried moving here 25 years ago with the hope of running a small business and after investigating the money side of it I was smart enough to see that not having a steady income was the wrong thong to do. What's your excuse?

Selfish, uncaring, old ****.
So your obvious attitude is screw us who have made it and worked for our piece of the pie and followed our dream to what we want. Works both ways. Selfish, uncaring? Look in the mirror *******.

....you're "paying" for your piece of the pie by supplementing your retirement annuity with social security (paid for by today's workers) and Medicare (paid for by today's workers)? Of course, I'd bet dimes to dollars that you are one of the fools who actually believes that the taxes you paid years ago were put into an lockbox account with your name on it and that's what you are drawing now.......

Perhaps you are one of those greedy individuals who are financing "Another Day in Paradise" by buying up the affordable housing stock and becoming one of the slumlords charging $1200/mo or more in rent.

Good Guess! Since I also paid into Social Security I am entitled to draw on it, whether you like it or not. I would venture to guess that you have a attitude because you don't have social security. HA! Contribute to society and you can be successful too.

Wrong guess. I DO agree with you about the slum lords though. There is a lot of it going on but how do you stop it? During my time in EP I have had a few friends loose businesses because of just that. Anyway we've both had our say for what its worth. Have a good day.

And what will you do when you go out to eat(Cause you are entitled) and your favorite restaurant is closed? Or need to buy an ink cartridge for your printer(oh yeah---he is going out of business)? I guess those of us who are small business owners aren't concerned about becoming millionaires like some people who wanted to own a business here. We came for the safe community to raise a family, the beauty and the desire to provide a service at the same time. We didn't come to just suck the life out of the community...

Which is exactly what you are doing by the atrocious prices you charge for your goods, such as ink cartridges, and don't deny it. Compare your prices with say Sams Club, Wal Mart, etc. Becoming millionaires has nothing to do with it. If you were so damned concerned with your family you should have further investigated your ability to provide them with financial stability here in EP. I don't fell sorry for you one bit. You have no one to blame but yourself. Your family suffers because of your narrow minded selfishness.

That every one else posting here disagrees with your narrow minded selfish crap, you are proving what we are all saying every time you respond.
You got yours and every one else is stupid, and didn't plan, even though we did but the economy changes and makes the circumstances change. And what little you paid into your social security was gone long ago and now you are living off what we all pay into it.
That's why you have no sympathy for anyone else, so why don't you head off to the senior center for your $3.00 lunch that we all subsidize for you so you can get your cheap meals and discounts.

So you admit that you will collect SS some day.
Obviously you are intelligent enough to see that the changes in the economy have a negative impact on your ability to survive, so what's wrong with going with the flow and adjusting to those changes by maybe pursuing a different line of work, a different place to live, and just whatever it takes to survive? I didn't live in one place or work one job all my life and I made it. You remind me of the typical "Younger Generation" who wants everything given to them and doesn't want to make the sacrifice to succeed. Look, we can go at this for eternity and still not agree with each other. We all tend to point fingers at each other and that doesn't solve anything. I do apologize if I have offended you and I do wish you luck in pursuing your dream. I'm outta here!
