I've noticed that gasoline prices in Estes have dropped from around $3.20 in September per gallon to less than $2.70 per gallon now. That's about a 20% reduction. Thank you Safeway!

Has pretty cheap gas already, Jim. What are you doing driving up to Estes Park to show off your math skills? Why don't you just stay at home and worry about your own problems, like sex offenders and balloon boys?

Just shows you how long they have been screwing us here with gas prices!! Maybe Safeway has special roads to get up here in order to have cheaper gas. Ut O, can't use that excuse anymore.

Yo -'Fort'- YOUR post is labeled that you post from Nebraska. How about following your own advise? OR, realize that this TOPIX forum displays were Internet servers somewhere "in the cloud" report themselves to be. My "location" shows up as West Virginia, but I'm sitting here and posting from Estes Park.

That you can post from anywhere? So can I. I'm sitting here and posting from the EP Safeway parking lot, and I still am telling Jim from Fort Collins to mind his own business and put down the calculator. Do you think the Mom and Pop shops should have raised their prices prior to Safeway's arrival. So what are you criticizing them for. Before when they had no competition they had a price that apparently people were willing to pay. Now they have a price that people either will or won't be satisfied with. If you are so darn upset, move to England. Or Fort Collins, where they convict Tim Masters of crimes he didn't commit.

Have some tissues. It is no big deal to post from Estes Park and have it appear like you are posting from anywhere. The point is, the Estes Park crybabies live near the end of the world up a godforsaken mountain pass and expect their gas to be the cheapest in the world, and when a conglomerate that doesn't care about losing $50,000 a day prices their gas 20 cents below market value to drive everyone out of business, some of the nimrods act like every day is Christmas, not realizing that the gas will go right back up to values equivalent to EVERYWHERE ELSE in the United States once Safeway has no competition. Stop complaining and walk to the valley to get your cheap one-ply toilet paper, losers.

..... Okay, this isn't (shouldn't be) that hard - "Jim" wasn't posting from Fort Collins. Obviously, once you get a misconception in your head, you stick with it.
Do you think the Mom and Pop shops should have raised their prices prior to Safeway's arrival.
Can we assume you're asking a question here?(Without proper punctuation, it's hard to tell). The point is, the Mom & Pop's DID raise prices to as high as they possibly could for DECADES, and they colluded with each other - not directly, as that would be illegal, but with a wink-wink "I'll match your high prices if you match mine" way. Very easy to do in a small town where a drive around to see each gas station's prices can take less than an hour.
So what are you criticizing them for. Before when they had no competition they had a price that apparently people were willing to pay.
FORCED to pay, would be more like it. Not everyone in town is a retiree with oodles of free time on their hands to spend driving up and down the canyons to buy reasonably priced gasoline.
If you are so darn upset, move to England. Or Fort Collins, where they convict Tim Masters of crimes he didn't commit..........
Ah, the last refuge of someone who has no argument: fall back to a knuckle-dragging 'love it or leave it' comment. And once again , "Jim" wasn't from Fort Collins.......

And to "Listen Jackwagon": gasoline prices in Estes Park often matched the highest in the entire state. Now gasoline prices are matching those found in the local region, and around the state. No one is getting "free" gas; no one is getting "subsidized" gas; - you may want to cry for the small business owners who ripped off locals here for decades, but don't be surprised that you are a very tiny minority. Please feel free to spend your trust fund or your social security check anyway you please. Those tired of the Mom & Pop rip-off sure are - they're lined up at the Safeway pumps!

It's about time!!! Hooray for Safeway! I have lived in Estes my whole life and the gas stations up here have been gouging us for YEARS! It doesnt cost a billion dollars more to get gas up here compared to any where else so that excuse it lame..over and done. The ma and pa stations will still have their regular customers who like the employees but I will always get gas at Safeway unless the other stations come down in price. I mean, Bob's gas is at 2.82...why would I go there when I can pay 2.55 at Safeway?! I'll still go to Bob's because I like their convenience store but screw paying 20 to 30 cents more. SORRY! Im just glad I dont have to drive to Lyons to get gas anymore! WAY TO GO SAFEWAY! They are smart cookies :)

who cares where Jim is from. He is an anti-American living in America. America is built on making money, and I for one don't care if the Mom and Pops charge $8 per gallon, like they do in Europe ($4 in Canada) if the tourists are dumb enough to fill up their tanks with it. My problem is that Safeway is now undercharging (the current gas price all over the Eastern U.S. is $3 or higher), and this temporary cheap gas will cause all kinds of misbehavior, leading to an increase in the pregnancy rate until Safeway drives everyone else out of business and raises their prices, and then where are you going to go to have your baby, in some back alley with an untrained midwife? Think about it. Currently I am standing on top of pump 3 in the Safeway gas station, flipping you off.

You don't know what you are talking about. You can get pregnant in Loveland or Lyons. I should know, I used to drive down to the valley to save a few dollars on gas and stock up on beef jerky and marshmallow peeps and I fell in love with the clerk at 7-11 and I thought he loved me too. Anyway we went into the stock room and made sweet, sweet love and now I have a kid with no father. The clerks at B and B aren't near as attractive, so I should have just stayed in town and lost the money on fuel but saved $200 on Geico. This message brought to you from a foster home on top of the Safeway, certainly not Saratoga Springs.

I'm kinda surprised at the really strange comments. The article is about the price of gas, not anything else.

I'm completely pregnant, and it's not because I inhaled gasoline fumes. Plus I am currently inside the pump at the Safeway, watching everyone breathe a sigh of relief because soon there will only be Safeway and nothing else in town - Safeway gift shops, Safeway post offices, Safeway bakeries, and Safeway locksmiths to open your Safeway cars.

So you're from "Houston", huh? I'll bet. Where in Estes Park do you think "Houston" is.

The point that I'm trying to make is that Topix recognizes exactly where you are from. Whoever posted from Fort Collins was IN Fort Collins at the time of the post. Obviously, there is no way of knowing whether someone who POSTS from a particular place LIVES in that particular place, but some idiot was trying to assert that the post i.d.'s were somehow random. It's not. Now, how many months along are you?

gasbuddies.com Estes Park now has the lowest priced gasoline in the nation. We will soon have to widen the canyon road to handle all the traffic, and the local's taxes will go up, but the gas will be 10 cents cheaper for the 2 miles they drive back and forth to the barbershop every week. So they will be extremely fat and happy.
