Full story: Estes Park Trail-Gazette

Engineers from the Colorado Department of Transportation will be in Estes Park next week for a technical meeting with town officials on the application for a Federal Land Access Program grant, town administrator Frank Lancaster said Tuesday.

The project will increase flow and, theerefore, capacity, which is intended to encourage even more traffic in downtown Estes Park. How does that reduce air pollution. It does nothing to get people out of their cars while visiting Estes Park.

There is no practical solution to traffic in EP. The town is too small to reduce streets to one way. As for parking, building another parking lot will give us THREE useless lots, not to mention one planned at the visitor center. The one at the fairgrounds is under utilized and never can you find more than ten vehicles there at any one time except maybe during an event at the fairgrounds. What makes these town geniuses think building more parking lots is going to solve the parking problem? If that's their goal, why not build a multi level structure behind Bob and Tony's? There's already the space there for it and it would be up against the mountain and you wouldn't have to move the Post Office or inconvenience anyone in the are with your stupid ambitions.

For all the geniuses out there that see my posts and those of others with a non-EP tag on them: Don't assume that we are not living here. Your ISP may route traffic to a server that will handle things faster. That server may not be right here in EP.

I am not sure what the other "useless" parking lots are. Define useless for us. Are the lodging people in town informing their guests about the shuttles? Is there adequate signage to direct people to these "useless" parking lots? Americans have become so addicted to their automobiles that they can't think of parking and riding a shuttle.

You can see the frustration on peoples faces on the 4th of July as the search in vain for downtown parking. Meanwhile they could have parked at the Fairgrounds and rode the bus to the Visitors Center and walked along the river into downtown. For many, perception is reality. If they think we have a parking problem, then we have a parking problem. But what do you expect from people who will park illegally all for the sake of getting that all important Starbucks?!

The issue of parking has been a topic for as long as people have been coming here. As far as the post office goes, have you tried to park to get your mail after 11 AM? Having it downtown may have been a great idea in 1961. Today? Not so much.

Having looked at the drawings of what is planned for that area, I see potential for another enjoyable place for people to come. I was also an advocate for a structure to be built behind what was the Bob's Amoco property and in the Davis Street lot. But I can visualize the proposed project to be built with the FLAP grant money having a much better long term benefit. Ask yourself, is that area behind the PO and the backside of the Gaslight Square building the image we want to project to people?

I have no involvement with Town government. But I don't see everything they do as having some evil undercurrent to it. Don't be shocked if the investors being courted for the downtown theater take a look at the event center taking shape at Stanley Park and ask why the "brain trust" that cooked up the EPIC project refused to consider the Stanley Park site when it was offered.

Parking is at the core of nearly every discussion taking place in regards to improving the town. Remaining static is like moving backwards.

is the definition of reading that last post. It makes of no sense. The parking problem is not a problem, and will not be a problem, once the hovercraft developed in California becomes massed produced over the next decade. Putting in these massive parking structures will be a tremendous waste of money. We won't even need streets. So I can't blame the brain trust of EPIX for wanting to build a porno theater downtown, because that is where all the marijuana action will be headed as well.

I am not on the town board. I have no involvement with the town government. None of my children listen to my constant hectoring so I come on this forum to show how brilliant I am. If asked, I will not serve. If baked, I will not yield. If routed through ISPs, it will still not say Estes Park if I don't live in Estes Park. This is the wisdom of the internet. It quickly unmasks pretenders. Why is it that people from outside Estes Park have such a fascination with Estes Park? Because they ran for their own local government and lost. And they are driving around looking for people to bitch to about their beliefs. LOOSERS and LOONERS, all of them.

Whats wrong with the area behind the PO? What the hell do you want, Disneyland? So lets go ahead and build a multi-level concrete slab and decorate it with a few trees so the people who visit from the big city will be reminded of home. Have you seen the sign on Hwy 36 coming into EP directing people to parking at the fairgrounds? Either they can't read or just don't care! Guess which one. Therefore, 10 cars in a 300 space lot ----useless! And a waste of money. Have you gone into any of the hotels and seen brochures advertising the shuttles and parking at the fairgrounds? Apparently not. I would be curious to know what you call adequate signage. With that comes the issue of where does the money come from for it. Oh, and I am not a part of town government either. I also have my mail sent to my home. I don't have to hide where I live.
